I think this episode is hysterical, the scene where Jean Carson starts to freak-out crying, then looks at all that money and goes "However....We must muddle through these things!!!!!!" is just the BEST

As always your videos are so interesting and informative. I remember an episode from, "Tales of the Dark Side," where this woman was an artist and she ended up with this horribly creepy picture, and something about that she was painting scenes that would later be bad things that would happen to her until she finally meets her fate with death. She wasn't a criminal though like these people. It was a favorite episode of mine. My most favorite scary short was a story where this delivery guy is running late and he works for a company that guarantees that packages are delivered on time. Anyhow, long story short he comes up to this fork in the road and ends up in this town, and meets a man at a coffee shop that tells him he won't help him find this address until he takes a break and has a cup of coffee, the delivery driver gets fed up with this man, and continues to try and find the places he's looking for only to find he keeps ending right back up to this fork in the road and cannot escape this area of the town spot of this coffee shop. When the guy goes into this coffee shop you can tell something is really off with it and seeing the same people in it all smiling and laughing. It's just a really unsettling episode, and I've been trying to find it, without any success. I thought it was Tales from the Dark Side, but when I put in the description nothing came up. I can't remember the name of this horror short, but I'd love to see it again. It would be awesome if you could do a thing on it, but unfortunately I can't figure out what I saw it on. Maybe, "Tales of the Crypt," I don't know, but I was certain it was, "Tales from the Dark Side."

Hey Mojosfire, happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for the watch & comment! Hmm, that tale you described does not sound familiar to me unfortunately. I did some looking around online and found out there was an anthology movie hosted by Vincent Price called 'Escapes' from 1986. Apparently it featured 5 stories and one was called "Coffee Break." Maybe that's it, but I do not believe so? It's presently floating around here on KZbin. I'm curious to find it too now.

@@FeverDreamlandTheaterHappy Thanksgiving and yay you found it! I've been searching for this for years, but never knew the name and was sure it was on, "Tales from the Darkside," but it wasn't. I know the acting in it seems a bit cheezy and obviously it's a low budget film, but I don't know, I guess, for me it has this whole creep factor. I found a version of it on here, but sadly I believe they cut out the full ending, because I seem to remember after the guy has the coffee, it's like he loses his mind just like the rest of the people who had probably also gotten lost at one point and ended up stuck there. It's got that whole claustrophobia feeling. Anyway if you watch it, my impression was the coffee they drink causes them to lose their minds or maybe it's the area, and the coffee helps to forget and manages to aid in keeping them there.
@Mojosfire

@@FeverDreamlandTheater Hey, just wanted to show you, I left a little bit of a lengthy comment to one who uploaded the film, but read this comment I put, as I know now after typing it why I found this short so creepy. I had been searching for this for so long. Even for a lower budget type film, to me it was creepy and unsettling and I think it's because it gives that claustrophobic feeling, being stuck in a place that you can't escape and of course after you drink the coffee, you lose your mind to where you have no idea where you are and who you are anymore. It's like almost a weird version of hell, if you take out of the whole fire and brimstone theory, being stuck in a place you just want to escape from so badly even if at first the surroundings looked so calm to begin with, but the more the delivery guy keeps circling around the area, I don't know if it's the quality of the film from back then, but it appeared to me like the area began to look and feel darker, not dark like because the sun is setting, but dark as if to say the comfy woodsy town was just an illusion to something that was quite disturbing. The townsfolk all seem like they ended up in this creepy place, and after they drank the coffee that they too were probably reluctant to drink, it caused them to lose their minds, and the old guy is like the devil in disguise as a friendly old country folk. LOL, but I'm probably reading way more into this film, but that's the feeling it gives me. 😆I'm a fantasy fiction author so my mind starts to go into story mode. LOL!

Good to see another one of these! I always had a soft spot for this one. Fred Clark as Chester is the highlight for me. Not often we get to see him in a lead role, but this and movies like "Abbott & Costello Meet the Keystone Kops" show that he could easily play a comic villain. The ending is also pretty rushed and bungled but thanks for providing some needed context for it here. Great review for an underrated episode!

Haha, I was going to comment on Lupin III right when you mentioned it^^ I found the ending to be rushed. Maybe if the animosity between the husband and brother had been more of a focus throughout the episode, the sudden falling out would have seemed more natural. The wife's death at least may have been more believable if the waiter pushed her, but maybe they didn't want to/weren't allowed to show such obvious violence against women. I do like the motif of the bodies piling up below the window though, implausible as it might be. Who knows maybe the window led to the Twilight Zone as well? 😉 Still an enjoyable episode, worth a rewatch, thanks in no small part to the actors, just like you said.

"Maybe if the animosity between the husband and brother had been more of a focus throughout the episode, the sudden falling out would have seemed more natural." I'm with you totally. As I rewatched this one, I just found myself wondering about alternatives like that. It's not a bad episode by any means, just needed a little bit more work. In the entry on this episode in Martin Grams Jr's book, Rod Serling even stated some episodes needed more time or a larger budget to be further developed and polished. Thanks for the watch & comment Julia!

Hey Anthony, I agree that this is a tolerable episode, though not in the _must-see_ tier. The premise is good enough, though a variation of tried & true _Twilight Zone_ tropes, as I can easily see the camera on the shelf of the antique shop next to such magical curios as a stopwatch, & a lamp. It's easy to overlook this detail, but defenestration is an occurrence recycled a number of times by Rod. Besides the four characters who went out the window in this one, there are at least three other episodes where it occurs: "Perchance to Dream", "What's in the Box", and "Escape Clause". The camera in question is a bit like a _TZ_ twist on the old Polaroid camera and its instant photos, and I'm also inclined to view it as a reverse spin on the general premise of comedian Steven Wright's one-liner: "I put instant coffee in a microwave oven and almost went back in time.” Given its rapid death toll, "A Most Unusual Camera" perhaps could be retitled "The Polaroid from Hell". For some reason, I was under the misassumption that Jean Carson's floozy wasn't named Paula, but "Bunny". (Don't ask me how I came up with that one .🙄 Wait! There was at least one character named Bunny in the Zone, and that was Bunny Blake, the titular Hollywood star in "Ring-a-Ding Girl", so there's that.) *My Rating: 3 out of 5 gaping windows* Which reminds me of a recent "Dad Joke" I found here on KZbin: _I like going out-of-doors...it's safer than going out of windows._ 😀

The premise is goofy but i rather like the idea of the camera. It seems like an SCP object. As for would i use it for gambling? You bet I would! I'd take a picture of one of those boards showing the winning lottery numbers and win big. Keep the camera a secret and make sure to spread the wealth around a bit because stuff like this in the Twilight Zone tends to only bite the people who are greedy and malicious. People who sincerely try to help and/or do good are not _often_ punished. Besides, i live humbly already. I could live the rest of my life in comfort if i had a few hundred million dollars. Now imagine if it was one of those billion dollar jackpots and i buy tickets for all of my friends and family!

It could have brought up themes of fate and free will. What if somebody tried to avoid or stop the future the camera predicts? This was obviously meant to be on the lighter side and that’s the story they wanted to tell which was fine. Comedy is the one genre that ages the fastest and I just don’t connect with it 70 years removed from it.

Agreed completely. Comedy is just one of those things that ages fast. Even in its time, not everyone can appreciate certain humor, much less decades later. "What if somebody tried to avoid or stop the future the camera predicts?" Now that is an interesting idea, in this case, would the camera begin to work as an unseen force and shove people out the window?

Anthony, thank you for the drop before Thanksgiving, whether guest or host you must be pretty busy in the run-up to Turkey Day. As to the labeling of this as a comedy...ummm not too sure about that. I mean, you may be using the critical consensus, and I won't argue with an expert as yourself, but in my lowly opinion, comedies are required to have happy endings. A downer ending, even as celestial justice for a lifetime of pettiness and greed, that at least is a morality play, a cautionary tale, a dramedy at best. But again, that's my amateur understanding of the categories and conventions of the genres. The critique is impeccable as usual, and I have nothing to really add, but I am glad you did this one, it sure sounds funny until it wasn't and isn't so heavy that you can't bring it up at Thanksgiving Dinner. Bravo! Hope you eat lots of turkey/fish/stuffing/pie and not gain a belly ache. PS. A more serious request... I know "Death's Head" is in the pipeline and it is absolutely necessary, but could you do a double feature or even a tripple feature or a few quick back to back to back reviews of these two: Quality of Mercy and the Dennis Hopper episode, He's Alive (I think that's the name)? It is a very dark time and we need Rod's wisdom here. A deal is in the offing, and there is to be a so-called pause in the current Middle-eastern conflict. While the crazy is on hold, we the people have only a small window to encourage change. You have a small platform but it is bigger than mine, and this is a shot to get something out there where attitudes can change. Maybe start with Deaths Head, to to He's Alive and then repeat Mercy? Maybe the younger folks in the audience will connect the dots and start demanding that we see the innocents on both sides and demand that the leaders of the two factions stop acting like teen hoodlums and start acting like adults. War is never good, and a war where half the dead are children will not endear either government to the populace at large. While you may not want to wade into the weeds, when real life becomes a horror show, bringing back Rod's wisdom and anti-war stance, even understanding that sometimes the war needs to be fought, there are still limits and lines that shouldn't be crossed and there is still room for right and wrong and yes, mercy. You don't have to say much more than what you'd normally say, as your audience are smart people, but I would recommend that you state the obvious that Dachau was real and the episode was underplaying the horrible reality as well as the scope of the dead and damage. That Hitler was a real person who was complicated but nonetheless a fill in the blank who was the one giving the orders (heck, the Nero decree against his own people was a war crime). Quality of Mercy needs no gilding, it is absolutely solid as is and if people can't see the truth they are blind. Sorry I got off on a tangent, but you'd think we'd know better by now and we'd neither demonize anyone except those in charge, the kinds of people who give those orders. And yes, that was a quote from Star Trek, Deep Space Nine, episode from the Dominion War arc. And I wish somebody would stick several episodes of DS9 (especially Duet, from the first season), TZ and Lloyd Alexander' Westmark series in the faces of the playcallers in this horror show...maybe they'd learn something.

Hi Marie, always great to hear from you! I agree totally, it's a dark time and we need Rod's wisdom now more than ever. It's a shame we are even at a point where it has to be stated that such horrific atrocities occurred. Deaths-Head Revisited has been on my to-do list for a while. I was always aiming to get to it before the end of the year. Sadly, current events make us all reflect on such dark history with an even heavier heart. I'll do my best with it though all the same. Very best wishes for the upcoming holiday season, have a happy Thanksgiving, take care and be well!

Some have likened it to the Kool-Aid man crashing through a wall, and ditto the creature when caught on fire in _The Thing from Another World_ (1951), and a very similar scene, where the Palmer-Thing gets ignited, escaping by a burst through a wall in John Carpenter's _The Thing_ (1982).
