He probably couldnt afford gloves before... lets not act like the absence of gloves couldn't get one of the children sick due to cross contamination... he doesn't have running water and hand soap to kill the germs on his skin. A child gets sick and what treatment will they recieve? They would die if it were too serious. The gloves are a good thing, however thats not to say that without gloves he wasn't doing an exceptional job. The gloves also probably help to save water that they don't have attempting to rinse their hands.
