What a wonderful spectacle, just made for video cameras. I'm amazed there were no serious injuries. Looked like a lot of fun. Boys will be boys and sometimes even girls will be boys!! Brilliantly captured and held my attention for the full 14 minutes.

I say, "No!". I've just turned 50, and I've got arthritis in my knees and hips, so I think I'll give rolling down that hill a miss! It was quite painful even standing on that steep hill watching for a couple of hours!

Apart from all of that I feel fine...

This has been on my bucket list for a while now. Not visited Cooper's Hill yet. Have visited the bog snorkelling at Llanwrtyd Wells. Awesome. I've followed this too since the local council tried to muscle in on it with threats and the Police terrorised the old lady from the firm that supplied the cheese. Great clip :)

As a yank that has no idea what this is all about, 1) how did this tradition start 2) what's with the rugby players tackling people at the bottom? I absolutely love this! I'm adding it to my bucket list of things I want to see in person. Looks like a TON of fun!

1) Not sure, but I think it goes back hundreds of years. It could be something to do with local lads demonstrating their toughness to young maidens by showing they could throw themselves down the steepest hill in the area, and live to tell the tale. 2) The rugby players are there to stop fast-moving humans ploughing through the hedge and fence and into the garden of the property that is at the bottom of the course, but sometimes they get carried away and seem to jump on top of anyone just for the hell of it!

The rugby players fulfil two roles at the cheese rolling they catch the people who are out of control as they descend the hill and they are also stretcher bearers for the first aid/medical team who would otherwise have to ascend and descend on ropes, but by doing it this way a couple of medics can be half way up on ropes for triage and patient packaging and the rest of the first aiders/medics stay at the bottom to receive any casualties, I should know as I have been a medic at the cheese rolling a few times it is one of the most demanding tasks that I have ever been involved with!!!!

Nobody really knows what the situation is yet, the hill is now owned by the wildlife trust rather than the council meaning that they have to give permission for the event, but to be honest the police and council want to ban it completely and if the event is not granted permission it will be against the law to conduct the event meaning there would be no medical cover and arrests could be made because of the bylaws for coopers hill, I suggest checking the official website if it is still active!

i so miss Gloucestershire, i had to move much higher north to the west Midlands and i can't get to cooper's hill so easily now. i could beat all these lot now as i think i was born without fear growing up in Gloucestershire. i grew up in a town called Stonehouse. I'm so homesick lol but the trick to this is just run 🏃‍♂️
