@RashleysBorderQue4 жыл бұрын
ElGrecoDaGeek Sorry but I don’t have a seasoning video. There are a lot of good how to videos already out there. I washed my grill to remove any oil or shipping preservatives and rinsed it well. Then I heated it on the unit to dry and once it was dry and warm I applied a very very thin coat of Canola oil and heated it to smoking. Let it cool and repeated about 4 or 5 times and then just started cooking on it. After each cook I would scrape the grill clean using steaming water until it was clean, then after it dried, which was quick at that temp, I gave it a light coat of oil. I repeat the clean and oil after each cook. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.

I hate to be "That Guy" but you never want to use Extra Virgin Olive Oil for cooking at griddle temps. Its smoke point is only 375F on the high end. 325F on the low. For that griddle you should never use any oil with a smoke point of less than 450F. BTW, that is a good move putting those depressions in the burgers. Maybe you should tell the folks why you did that.
@RashleysBorderQue7 жыл бұрын
judsonkr That's ok, I love when people are that guy in a polite , constructive way. Thanks for the suggestion. I have asked on many forums to see what oil people are using. I get answers from evoo to grapeseed to soybean to whirl, (butter flavored soybean oil). What do you recommend? As you know the intentions are to keep the patties from puffing up in the middle, but being my first cook on the griddle, I got more and more forgetful as the cook and video went by. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion. Feel free to provide helpful tips anytime. I appreciate the help.

Am loving your videos and cannot wait to start cooking on my Blackstone. Of course it is getting into the mid 90s here in Houston so I am not sure how much cooking I will be doing. Let cool, and coated with olive oil, heated on medium until the oil quit smoking, turned off and let cool. Coated with olive oil again, heated on medium, etc. and repeated 8 times. After last cycle, I oiled it down with olive oil and thats it. Some folks recommend flax seed oil, but I didn't have any and had lots of olive oil. Thanks for watching.

blackstone has youtube video showing how to season griddle. They recomend flaxseed oil. Acording to there vid which I followed and it works great you wash new griddle with soap n water the heat it up to high heat and add little flaxseed oil rub it on outside of the griddle as well but just a thin coat and leave heat on high for 15 mins till it stops smoking then add little more n leave heat on high for 15 more mins and do that 4 times. Not hard at all. While it is still hot, I spray some water on which raises the crud off the surface, scrape with a spatula and wipe down with a cotton rag. Then I apply a little oil and spread with rag. Takes just a few minutes. Important to cover it after it cools. I didn't the last time I used it and now I have some rust to clean off. I will sand off the rust, clean well with water and some heat and then apply oil and go through a seasoning process. If I had covered it I would not have to do this though.

With this griddle It was wham bam your done man. If you noticed I was kind of talkative in the beginning, then started to get quiet. Inside my head I was thinking, man your behind the curve here. When I started editing I realized that I quit talking to my audience and was just trying to keep up. LOL. I cooked patty melts today and did much better because I had everything ready to go before I started. I decided not to video it and concentrate on workflow. I will be doing more vids on the griddle soon and will make sure to video the final product. Great idea about the dogs. If you noticed one of the girls was at the patio door watching most of the cook in eager anticipation. Thanks for watching again and again amigo.

Lol yeah I noticed her watching you. Now that you mention it I did notice you get a bit quite but I was so entranced by the burgers being created I never gave it a second thought. Have a good one

The chime in the background is annoying. Im curious as to why so much water? Are you trying for a steam effect of the food?
@RashleysBorderQue6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The steam speeds the softening of the onions and speeds up the melting of the cheese.
@fizixx6 жыл бұрын
Oh ok, I was wondering if that's what it was or if maybe something else. Thanks, and happy grilling. :)

I also massage ground onion and garlic powder right into the meat before cooking. At least you press the center to prevent bloating and blead...

That sounds awesome. There are so many ways to season burgers. Thanks for watching and sharing your ideas.

I notice that you have the 28 inch griddle. That's the one I'm looking at. Is there any reason to move up to the larger 36 inch one? We don't have a big family, and I probably wouldn't be cooking very much when other friends and family visit. Plus, there's almost a $175 difference between the two. Your thoughts?
@RashleysBorderQue7 жыл бұрын
I have had plenty of room on my 28. Tough call though. There have been times when I wished for the 36, but 90 percent of the time the 28 is plenty of room. I would bet you would be ok with the 28. The extra room is mostly a convenience thing.

the reason to go to a large griddle is that you can hang one end off the side to have a cool spot for keeping food warm and such. i love having a 3 burned griddle on a 2 burner stove. Its less about having more room and more about having more temperature options for me.

I've been on the look out for the best onion burger forever. Finally found it at Kay's Diner in Wagner OK. She went out of business a long time back and after a lot of research.. i'm thinking it's in the seasoning of the grill. The older and more seasoned the better. How did you do yours? I'm thinking a lot of oil, fat and onions! rinse repeat... I'm looking at that same grill. Happy with it? Great job on the video and you are lucky I didn't smell those things all the way in OK... you would have to throw another one on!

Sorry I missed your comment way back when. The onion burgers sure were good. I season the grill with whatever oil I have handy after each cook. Lately either grapeseed oil or canola. I would have cooked one for you if you had been here.

@@RashleysBorderQue I ended up buying the blackstone. I was more asking about first seasoning. What I ended up doing was ordering beef tallow on amazon and seasoning it with that about 4 times with a few onions chopped up then switched to bacon... butter.. really got it looking good. since then I've done onion burgers many times and succotash, fajitas... just keeps adding character to the seasoning. I clean it between stuff but I don't scrub off the seasoning. I basically take off all of the burnt crumbs.. then coat with a little veg oil to keep it till the next time. I bought the hard steel cover for mine. Everything is amazing cooked on it. LOVE IT!

Also, why do you push in the middle of the meat?
@RashleysBorderQue6 жыл бұрын
Good catch. That dimple in the middle of the patties keeps the center from puffing up. If you don't do that it might puff up in the middle and look like a flying saucer instead of a hamburger patty. An old chef's trick. It helps it stay flat.

amzn.to/2thMIqu is a cover similar to the ones I purchased. I earn a small fee if you purchase after clicking the link even if you choose another product without closing the browser. It does not cost you anything extra though. Thanks.

Why does everyone cook with olive oil? I thought the smoke point was low and creates carcinogens in your food?
@RashleysBorderQue4 жыл бұрын
What oil do you cook with? EVOO has a smoke point of around 375 to 390 and I cook at about 350.

i don't get the oil with the burgers there is enough fat in the burgers why add oil?
@RashleysBorderQue6 жыл бұрын
Yep, thanks for watching. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It depends on how much fat is in the meat I am using and whether the griddle has been sticking or not.

This is epic, doggie bone patties and world famous small burgers 🍔! The only thing I would critique is leaving all that cheese on the griddle, that needs to go on your burger!
@RashleysBorderQue6 жыл бұрын
Hey Crunk, I agree. I melted the cheese too far and it ran off the burger. Even with that they were delicious. Thanks for commenting and thanks for stopping by. By the way, the dogs loved the doggie burgers.

Looking good bud, I got the 28" at home and the 22" for the boat. You need a scraper for the clean up it works great. Keep on grillin
@RashleysBorderQue7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yep, I want to get a longer scraper. The one I have has too short a handle and the steam gets a bit hot on my hands which is why I am using the spatula to scrape with.
