Oh my, this is a recipe that I just did last week and posted on your Backyard Chef Facebook page. The difference is that I did a one pot meal, chucked in my cubed potatoes into my ground beef mixture with some chicken bouillon and let the potatoes cook all together. I like your bake first, get the potatoes Brown, and layer in baking dish. Such a great idea!😎

Oh my that's a crowd pleaser. I'm making a vegan version with black beans, roasted corn kernels and diced zucchini for a bit of green. Maybe sweet peppers too. Probably will goose the spice level a tad as I have a wilting poblano in the fridge. Thank you for tonight's dinner inspiration. You're the best.
@JanetBrown-px2jn2 ай бұрын
I like your version,I make Lasagna with finely chopped mushrooms,carrots,eggplant,and whatever green veg I have,beans,broccoli,zucchini,all minced up then cooked like ground beef with the tomato sauce,and the usual Italian spices,everyone thinks they are eating a meat lasagna,so good with the ricotta,and mozzarella.Most recipes for veg lasagna use big pieces of vegetables,and I don’t like that,for a start I like it to taste like a meat lasagna,but to be lighter,and I like a few vegetarian meals.Secondly big pieces of veg in a lasagna tend to slip about,so you can’t get a nice neat square.😊

@@JanetBrown-px2jn Ooh that's a great idea-I never thought to do a fine chop in the sauce. I'll use brown lentils to sub for the meat in the sauce and mix chopped veg with the ricotta layer. I really like your way, lentils can sometimes be heavy. Your way is much lighter. We're mostly veg with a few planned deviations-more lately thanks to Rik as I can't resist his recipes-but I try to veganize whenever I can. So the Southwestern veg version is in the oven now and I can tell it's going to be a keeper. Your version of lasagna is next, thanks for sharing.🙂🥦🧄🫑

You’ve just created what looks like an entirely different dish, just by the inclusion of a few more ingredients & a different cooking method, it looks absolutely delicious & is definitely one I will be trying out very soon! Culinary alchemy before our eyes! 🪄✨👨🏼🍳 How are things going there today, any signs of the flood waters regressing? Saw on the news that the aid workers were using elephants 🐘 to help distribute aid packages to those trapped upstairs in their homes. Sad to hear that three people sadly lost their lives & a couple of rescued female elephants on the reserve also drowned.😞 Stay safe& take care 💗 - Thanks as always for sharing Rik. 🙏👍👌😋

I always like how your intentions are noble when it comes to waiting for a freshly baked dish to cool "a little off" before digging into it, but the aroma gets the better of you which quickly ends that and you dig in with gusto. It is so pleasing to watch you enjoy your creations and the happiness and exuberance you cook with. I get tired of watching people, especially many women, play "Food Games". For many of us in the older generation, we were taught to be Dainty Eaters publicly, no matter how hungry we were and how plentiful the food. Wasn't considered "Ladylike" to show that you enjoyed your food or dared to ask for more. You were always expected to leave a small portion behind on your plate and not publicly eat large portions, acting like you barely tolerated it. I never subscribed to any of that nonsense and hope that women will develop a more honest relationship with food and their body images. Another easy to prepare tasty dish for us to try.

Oh yum Rik, this looks great and I’m sure my grandkids would love it. I’m always looking for food that I think they will eat when they are with me, instead of cruddy nuggets and chips etc. My 10 year old grandson is always in the kitchen, he made his own pizza from scratch with no help whatsoever, base and all, it was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten. I was at their place last week and he also cooked dinner, the steak he cooked was so good, only he expected me to eat it like him which was rare and I made him cook it more, he told me I’d killed his steak but geez he did a good job on his own again. Problem is he doesnt clean up after himself. I think he may be a chef when he’s older he makes that much stuff. Thanks for your videos Rik, I love them. Have a great weekend.

Lets hope he follows what he likes to do - however cleaning away is part of the job until you reach the top. However I always and will always help clean, mop - done it for so long and In my kitchens (not now retired) I never had any problem in leading the way - its amazing how much team work gets accomplished if everyone pull their weight. I started in the pan wash - moved on to peeling and chopping onions etc then on the line - etc - Encourage him to always watch what chef's and cooks do. Its the best way to see who can cook and who is full of tosh. You will be amazed how he picks things up - that will be useful in the future. I wish him all the very best, good luck. Rik
