I am thinking of canned corned beef with a white sauce as a second option. Will definitely get a jar of the cheese sauce to try it out. Please keep these pantry meals coming !

Oh, that sounds like a good variation. You can make your own white sauce, or buy a packaged country gravy mix OR buy a jar of alfredo sauce. I always like thinking of multiple ways to accomplish the same thing, so that I can pull it together with whatever I have on hand at the moment. I definitely plan to keep sharing more pantry meals, so stay tuned!

Is it more cost effective to dehydrate them yourself or buy them already dehydrate?
@StockingMyPantry
@StockingMyPantry Жыл бұрын
I think it's more cost effective to dehydrate them yourself. You do have to account for electricity use, and with me being in Southern California, that's a consideration. But I still think it's cheaper. But buying them does save a lot of time. I do think the Augason Farms brand is reasonably priced. Some of the other companies charge quite a bit more, which makes it harder to justify.

It's cost effective, but a lot of work. It's also addictive. You want to dehydrate everything lol
@StockingMyPantry
@StockingMyPantry Жыл бұрын
@@grizzledgranny4600 good point! I agree about both the work, and the addiction. Sometimes it's a good deal to buy things already dehydrated. For instance, I like Augason Farms bell peppers - and I often get them for around $15 for a #10 can. When you think of how many bell peppers you'd have to buy to fill up a can, and when you think of what they cost, unless I want to do something different like strips instead of dices, it makes no sense to do it myself. And yes, it is addictive, especially when I see how much food shrinks, and therefore how much I can store in a small space.

If you are baking the dish, you could have skipped the rehydration part and simply just added all the ingredients and baked it. Similar to the box version at the store.

Good point! It would probably take a long time, and you would need to add additional water, but it would be worth a try!
