In response to reduced availability of natural water sources for wildlife, this artificial waterhole was build in 2006 after the farm was converted by Gondwana Collection Namibia into a nature reserve and game species which had once been indigenous to the area was reintroduced . The waterhole was reconstructed in June 2021 with the round "rock" in the middle to reduce evaporation and provide birds a perch. A solar-powered pump on a 100m (300ft) deep borehole draws water from the aquifer (groundwater) into a reservoir 150m to the north-east behind the camera. A pipe feeds the waterhole from the reservoir and the flow is regulated via a float valve and water refills automatically.

I just realized something so textbookish, territorial, it is hard to feel what it is before, but when i found out these 3 cheetahs are exactly the 3 who drank water in the early morning, and i come to understand as long as the 3 cheetahs are well, i am not going to see any other cheetahs in this entire namib channel, isn't it so strange, cheetah from a general conceptional sense changed into a exact 3 cheetahs group... maybe soon we will come to know exactly who they really are, thank you for the experience, i am sure your desert lodge is a most fascinating one...

Is this hole build by human or natural?
@AtomicArtumas
@AtomicArtumas 2 жыл бұрын
From the livestream description "Built in 2006, the special character of this waterhole, has not only an impact on the surrounding wildlife, but stretches across the globe, from home to home. This particular waterhole is situated within an open plain, 8km from Namib Desert Lodge. A solar-powered borehole fills a nearby reservoir and is monitored by a water float that opens as the waterhole’s levels decline."

I think "cheetahs" should actually be two species with duma or letotse and Acinonyx jubatus for the African species and cheetah and Acinonyx venaticus for the Asian species because the word cheetah through its Hindi root cita and their Sanskrit root citraka originally referred to the Asian species while for the African species, adults have a mane on the back of their necks that is a few inches long. The Asian subspecies does not have a mane in the summer. Duma is Swahili while letotse is Setswana. Do you think so?
