This is an old video but since it appeared on my feed I might as well leave a comment. I completely respect your opinion on Cheeteh Z's MAPs and you are in no way expected to like their MAPs, however I feel like their choice to do something completely different with the main ideas of warriors is really creative and that's why I personally enjoy the MAPs. The artists put a lot of work into it and that's what makes the MAPs so beautiful and special, and the stories are interesting and new. While I love the warrior cats community and their maps, I feel like it's refreshing to see such a different kind of map with such creative aus. It's something that hasn't exactly been seen before to this extent and I believe that's why they're so popular. it's something new rather than the same story with different designs or themes, it's a new story with the same (or similar) characters and familiar elements from the original. I can agree that it does lack some professional aspects though, which is understandable. And the song choice for God's Whisper is something I haven't heard before. I had no idea the original song was about oppression, seriously thank you for pointing that out. On that note, I agree it's irresponsible to use a song with such an important meaning and twist it to be about silly murder cats. I still enjoy the Maps for the artwork and the stories aren't too bad imo (they're not the best but still enjoyable and the only one I had trouble following was the time travel one). The symbols and details they use in these maps are pretty cool too. Anyway, just thought I'd give my opinion. Also, your art is very pretty! This background looks gorgeous :)

Part of the reason i really wanted to make this video at the time is specifically because a lot of the criticisms being given about the maps is that they were "too different" and I thought that criticism was lazy and limiting! I wanted to make a video that would explain why the maps are poorly thought out and don't work in the medium they're in. I think they could have worked if they were long fics on AO3, something like that, but they're not! They're animated shorts! It's extremely difficult to make the kind of stories cheeteh Z was trying to make with short animations, much less without dialogue or original sound design. It leads to the story being confusing and hard to follow, but also making it hard to believe when characters make decisions that are different from canon, because you can't see the full emotional weight of the differences. This I think comes from too much stuff being put into individual maps, when they could have been much simpler.

@@magentialice That's very true! Cheeteh Z's MAPs would honestly benefit from making things simpler and easier to understand without limiting their creativity. They could have done a lot better with that, I agree. I agree with you in some areas on this. I enjoy the maps but I feel like they’re just kinda repetitive by now. Cowboy mapleshade was pretty good and I loved the art in pirate scourge but that’s all I can really say about every map haha

The problem is that cheetah z gets credit for making good stories when most of the plots are just ripped from the books. When the maps stray from cannon they get confusing and don’t make a lot of sense.

That was kinda the point.. they’re called AUs for a reason. They really do make sense if you pay close attention to foreshadowing. They’re obviously not the best things out there, But (respectfully) stop talking shit when you can’t create a AU saga that’s better or makes more more sense. They did the best they could using a singlethree minute song to portray a whole story. Cheeteh should not be be held to these standards. They’re just a kid who’s still in school, and the minute he made a mistake everyone was on his ass for something major corporations get away with 24/7. I think the original commenter was just trying to point out that the MAPs only become confusing when the plots aren't taken straight from the books. They weren't trying to "talk shit" at all it's just a matter of opinion. I think they'd be a lot more interesting if they featured original concepts but this of course isn't possible because the MAPs get all their popularity from the Warriors half of the story and not the AU half.

i was only recommended this just now but I would have loved to see this a year ago! I was so burnt out on every major project seeming to be "Cheetah Z" in some confusingly connected universe. It felt like every large animator/MANY medium animators, were constantly working on Cheetah z maps, and it felt like the fandom just halted for over a YEAR just to pump out map after map for one person's multiverse. it reminded me of getting burnt out on marvel cinematic universe movies 😭just too many and too messy a story unless you look for all the background info & learn a huge whole new au. And that was MOST of the map projects being made! If it were half as many it would still be quite a lot in the time period. It just to me felt like a LOT of animation/art space for warrior cats fandom...became a fandom for "cheetah z au". And imo variety & creativity suffered for it. Though i also saw some smaller artists making fun smaller pairing maps and branching to side characters in their own little space and since cheetah z "retirement announcement" theres hope for new growth!

Tbh, I mostly enjoyed how each animator did the styling, and the music specifically since I listened to these musics BEFORE finding out there were animatic versions. Now the stories? They were a bit eh, they were good to say the least. But to be honest, I think all of them had the same value as another and story-wise.

I Havent found this Video til Now but To Be honest Ive felt like most if not all of Cheetehz’ Maps were really. Grating. Compiled with all the stuff that came out recently Cheetehz just. wasn’t that Good at Getting their points across at all. The songs chosen never really Matched the maps at all nor did most of the Themes for the maps. The entire maps were mostly carried by the animators who gave their time into their parts.

I personally agree and disagree. The maps had okay concepts, but they honestly never made sense, and I feel like the only reason people watched was to see the animators, or joined to get the “fame” of being in one of Cheetezs map- or they just wanted to be in a map.

That's almost exactly the point i was trying to get across, the ideas are good but the execution is poor, in particular choosing to make these aus and such MAPs instead of say fan fiction or comics is what made them so terribly executed. The animations are gorgeous but that was just the work of the animators, and had nothing o do with the quality of script or storyboard direction. I might do a follow up video talking about studio quality maps trying to execute big complicated stories and why they're a problem/extremely unrealistic to achieve.

Personally out of all of cheetah’s maps werewhisker was my least favourite out of their maps because of the one 3d part, made that scene out of place and feel less impactful

​@@lemonmoth. i do think its jarring to see one 5 second clip randomly be 3d then back to 2d for 2 minutes- but It would be cool to see a smaller map project with 3d artists and it might help integrate them better than being a random flash amongst 2d. I also thought it was very nicely done in WereWhisker, but say the 3d part of a map were meant to continue a character walking, same as last scene, the switch from 3d to 2d is unpleasantly jarring. I think 3d in a mostly 2d map needs to be "special" or stand out, like a dream sequence, or it feels a bit stiff and unnatural following the more flowing 2d works. They follow very different physics & rigidity

I just find it sad when I see people picking on 3D parts in MAPs because they "don't fit in" enough with the rest of the project because the whole thing is switching styles every few seconds anyway yknow? Obviously not saying you are picking on any 3D parts I just think it's a shame that I've seen so many people basically saying a 3D part doesn't belong in a MAP because it stands out too much when obviously the host was happy with having a 3D part there. Edit: Also an even bigger shame when one single 3D part ruins a whole MAP project for someone

I like Hollyfawn, some animations were amazing! And cats with deer horns. I found out I need more of it ^^" Cats with deer astehtic. In a way I agree with this, animators in ANY maps don't get enough credit, BUT when you think about it there isn't much Cheetah can do about that, cheetah was once one of those animators (i think) but put in the work to rise to hosting maps, it is also the animators CHOICE to join CHEETAH IS NOT FORCING THEM. The fact that cheetah z can take on such huge projects (with help) and keep everything in order is impressive. The stories don't make complete sense and the reason I watch them is because they look cool, but some things are understandable and it does get boring to watch the same thing animated by different people over and over. So in my opinion Cheetah isn't wrong, the maps are a bit overated though.

No one ever said it was the best nor the peak of animation. The people who work on it aren’t professional. You’ve gotta understand most of the animators are still kids. Hell, cheetah is currently 19 and when they began hosting maps they had to be 16- 17. You can’t expect the best from a KZbin ANIMATION. They’re gonna rushed because you have to squeeze a life story into a three minute video. These maps are hosted, storyboarded, and animated by primarily by minors. Holly fawn is already pleasing, and it’s amazing such young and inexperienced artists are able to create something like that. You don’t have to like it, but don’t treat it as if it’s some professional project. It’s not overrated, most people just know how to appreciate it for what it is.
