Sadly, La Laterna closed just 3-4 weeks after its appearance in kitchen nightmares S2. Alex said in an interview that he was making up to $4k a month before it eventually started to drop to $1k. Alex then filed for bankruptcy and is now a car salesman... The crazy part is that his car and the number plate are still in circulation, so he might've still hung on to it. He had massive potential, or at least that's how the show presents it.

@@Squall598 Honestly one of two possibilities. A lot of good restaurants die in the UK on a yearly basis (I don't think he'd have survived the pandemic if he was still going as most restaurants in the country did not unless they had food that could be delivered). Ramsay himself has lost a few of his over time. And sometimes it's just too difficult to survive the economic climate. The other possibility is he didn't continue to adapt, because he may have been able to survive the times if he dropped his prices and changed the menu to something a bit more fitting with what locals could afford. And in which case that would be his fault.

The restaurant folded a few months later after takings dwindled again, unfortunately. FWIW, I don't think it takes an immense amount of skill to please Gordon. A clean kitchen, small menu and simple & local ingredients cooked well goes a long way. There were quite a few restaurants in the UK show where the same staff were able to massively improve by cooking from fresh and cutting down the menu. OTOH if you charge extortionate prices, have some dreadfully pretentious menu and serve a load of shit, he'll absolutely roast you.

For anyone that wants an update and hasn't checked: IS LA LANTERNA FROM KITCHEN NIGHTMARES STILL OPEN? La Lanterna closed for good in July 2005, just about three weeks after the La Lanterna Kitchen Nightmares episode aired on TV. The La Lanterna restaurant closed because its profits had dropped and the owner had to file for bankruptcy and put the La Lanterna building up for sale. As of 2022, the old La Lanterna Letchworth location is now occupied by a health facility called Garden City Surgery. So, it appears that there will be no more food served at the old La Lanterna address.

Liberal Viewer They buy their personalized license plates there and you can sell them. This young 'chef' had 'A1 chef' as his plate when clearly he wasn't much of a cook. To help him get some money back and lose the ridiculous plate, Gordon called some other chefs to try and sell it to them. None of them would bite though because only a d-bag would have that on his plate. the UK version of kitchen nightmares was sooooooo much better than the US one
@Killertomato849 жыл бұрын
+Michael Hunter I think the biggest reason for that is because brits understand brits. Americans see ramsay as harsh, unapologetic, and unfiltered. And quite frankly we're not used to that, so we immediately take offense. When he's telling off a European chef in his normal style, they may not like the hard truth, but they receive it better because they're used to it.
@angusmayte67549 жыл бұрын
+Killertomato84 naw it's the overacting drama bullshit, the censoring, the sob stories, added sound effects and even though it's different restaurants every episode is the same, going bankrupt rotten food, chef that doesn't want to listen and even if Gordon thinks the food is good, usually he will only say it's bland, not that it's good. The complete opposite to the uk version, which is reality.
