An imaging guided surgeon (interventional radiologist) & neuroradiologist, author of nutrition, medical & study skills books, Peter Rogers MD is the "Spartan Vegan."
In college he was student athlete of the year at Stanford. Graduated 1st in medical school class.
Dr. Rogers works as neuroradiologist, but also did fellowship imaging guided surgery (interventional radiology) at Harvard. He got fat in 30's and learned his way out. He was one of best medical students in USA in biochemistry and tries to understand pathophysiology. Has written a books about nutrition & study skills including "How to improve blood flow," "Hot topics in nutrition," "Straight A at Stanford & on to Harvard," "How to raise IQ, & become a genius."
Stanford university student athlete of the year, 1985. University of Illinois medical school award for best male medical student in class; best student in pathology; highest board scores in class of 333 students; biochemistry score 780/800, possibly the highest in the USA (biochem is the most difficult subject in medical school). Biochem is “considered” to include nutrition. Residency at Northwestern with 99% board scores. Fellowship in interventional radiology (imaging guided surgery) at Harvard. Fellowship in neuroradiology at Rush.
Author of multiple books about nutrition, reducing risk of disease, and study skills. Discovered almost all the major medical textbooks are 50-100 years out of date, and often, completely wrong. Secret desire #1 = to become a nutrition doctor, but can’t, because there’s no money in it. Secret desire #2 = to rewrite the major medical textbooks, but can’t, because there’s no money in it. The shocking truth is that most medical textbooks are essentially worthless, because they do no include nutrition, and most disease is caused by poor nutrition.

I thoroughly appreciate this opportunity to have a doctor not over simplify things! It's my responsibility to comprehend the subject at hand but if through oversimplification information gets left out of the presentation it can harm creating sufficient motivation to overcome the problems associated with the pleasure trap! Thank you doctor and Chef AJ alike for all your help! WFPB lost 141 pounds and still counting, so many health issues resolved and being one who came from the Atkins philosophy it really takes all I got to not cheat but Alan Goldhamer is correct pain is the most effective motivation! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

I so agree with you...all the other doc presentations are so dumbed down and full of oversimplified analogies. I appreciate that they want to educate an audience that just goes to McDonald's for lunch but it gets so tiresome being treated like an ignorant child. Of course I don't pretend to understand everything Dr. Rogers says at first...but it is my responsibility to follow up and build that prior knowledge so I will get it and I'll understand more the next time. It is such a relief to be treated like an intelligent adult that wants to learn.

This doctor has a lot to say, and I'm glad you had the humility to get out of the way and let him share freely. He covered some great points. He's good. I hope you have him on again. Thanks again. Great presentation. I am glad he seems fairly honest confessing he knows little about soy. But then issues an opinion. Phytoestrogenic effects have been greatly exaggerated and studies done in mice use many many more times the dose any human would eat. Societies that consume good amounts of soy have been doing so for thousands of years and you don't see high rates of disease

I respectfully disagree with a few of the positions of doctor but I wholeheartedly support him on almost all his positions. I follow Mcdougall and so does Dr. Rogers. I'm on the Mcdougall diet for 5 years now. I'll try Japanese recipes which include soy. I had a Chinese language partner who lived in Japan and brought Japanese cuisine to my attention so I have recipes. He's big on low fat, excluding nuts but I'm with Mcdougall on consumption with caution (to avoid overeating). I'll eat 1 ounce of nuts daily. Our diets are more similar being few, simple meals which are easy to cook, as opposed to a wide variety of more complex meals. Also, we both have no added salt diets.

I listen to the Rogers videos since they are relaxing and I can play video games or exercise. I learn a lot and it is motivating. Daily, I eat a meal that consists of kale, an orange and carrots. I just finished it listening to this video. This gives me a wide array of micro-nutrients. I consider a dark, leafy green to be the most important food I eat so but getting vitamin A from the carrots and C from the orange is very important, also. It's easy for me to skip going to the grocery and not eat this meal, but it is not smart. I try to eat it first, as recommended by Chef AJ: eating the leafy green first, and Rogers recommends that, also. The orange makes the blandness of the carrots more tolerable.

Thanks chef AJ, learnt so much here. Please can you do an interview on the effects of MSG on our brain etc? I’m having lots of debates in our family and defences are that whether natural or artificial chemical structures are same and in limited doses, it’s ok. MSG is prevalent around us incl vegan meats patties canned foods broth. But I think this is addictive and people end up overdosing themselves and has slow LT side effects Thankyou again

If this video is about veganism I'll pass on listening to all of it as I have been vegan for 8 years now and a healthy 70 year old, I enjoy cooking with fresh ingredients and avoid buying the ready made 'vegan' products. Fortunately I live in an area where fresh veg and fruit is very available and I also grow a small amount of veg myself. I have an old school friend who is unfit and has the usual health problems and taking tablets for this and that. I can't even begin to help her as she has no interest and just waves the advice away and it even makes her angry when her doctor advises she cut out or down certain foods. It's a big obstacle for our friendship because my veganism irritates her and I don't even talk about it unless she asks. I'm not on any medication and take a few supplements which quite honestly I don't think I need as I make sure I eat a wide variety of plants. I exercise regularly and enjoy taking my dogs out daily, I used to dance so have never been unfit or overweight, if my weight start to creep up I adjust my diet (homemade bread eating is usually the culprit). I make fermented veg foods like kimchi and sauerkraut.
