An imaging guided surgeon (interventional radiologist) & neuroradiologist, author of nutrition, medical & study skills books, Peter Rogers MD is the "Spartan Vegan."
In college he was student athlete of the year at Stanford. Graduated 1st in medical school class.
Dr. Rogers works as neuroradiologist, but also did fellowship imaging guided surgery (interventional radiology) at Harvard. He got fat in 30's and learned his way out. He was one of best medical students in USA in biochemistry and tries to understand pathophysiology. Has written a books about nutrition & study skills including "How to improve blood flow," "Hot topics in nutrition," "Straight A at Stanford & on to Harvard," "How to raise IQ, & become a genius."
Stanford university student athlete of the year, 1985. University of Illinois medical school award for best male medical student in class; best student in pathology; highest board scores in class of 333 students; biochemistry score 780/800, possibly the highest in the USA (biochem is the most difficult subject in medical school). Biochem is “considered” to include nutrition. Residency at Northwestern with 99% board scores. Fellowship in interventional radiology (imaging guided surgery) at Harvard. Fellowship in neuroradiology at Rush.
Author of multiple books about nutrition, reducing risk of disease, and study skills. Discovered almost all the major medical textbooks are 50-100 years out of date, and often, completely wrong. Secret desire #1 = to become a nutrition doctor, but can’t, because there’s no money in it. Secret desire #2 = to rewrite the major medical textbooks, but can’t, because there’s no money in it. The shocking truth is that most medical textbooks are essentially worthless, because they do no include nutrition, and most disease is caused by poor nutrition.

I’ll be 52 soon, and have been overweight my whole life. I also have extreme hypertension. I was also diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. 5 months ago, I slowly started exercising. I’m now biking up to 25 miles a day. 2 months ago, I changed to a WFPB way of eating. I’ve recently added the SOS-free way to it. I limit sodium to 160/>95 and has stabilized to 111/69 on average with a decrease in my BP meds. Regarding my CKD, I went from eGFR of 45 to 77 and Creatinine went from 1.76 to 1.15. I wrote all this to say this, if you’re still breathing and on this side of the dirt, it’s never too late to make changes to your diet. Start slow. Replace one meal initially with a WFPB SOS-free meal. You have to be your own health advocate.

Dr. Rogers is THE ULTIMATE IN TRUTH. He's the author of "Straight A's at Stanford and on to Harvard" which is the BEST book on techniques to learn, remember, and score high on tests like the biochemistry Harvard entry exam he scored higher or 2nd highest of anyone ever....EVER! I coached Pete in college where he set the single season win record at Stanford and was voted Student Athlete of the Year. Coincidentally I won those 2 awards at Oklahoma U. Pete is TENACIOUS!!!! When he bites into anything, he goes ALL THE WAY, LIKE LIFE AND DEATH INTENSITY. He is either the greatest or one of my greatest coaching achievements. One thing you need never fear, Pete ALWAYS GETS TO THE BOTTOM OF THINGS AND ALWAYS TELLS THE TRUTH. He researches like life itself depends on it. He has the most curious mind. When faced with a problem he finds the origin. He's hard to follow him sometimes but I'd rather watch this video and research things I don't know for myself. That's when I realized how much he knows. Bottom line: if you want a long healthy life follow Pete. He's the man!!! He's off the charts in a league of his own. I know. I was 160/110 then 115/75. I was amazed how fast it worked. It's was instantaneous. Full of instances. that's the definition of the word. It wasn't immediate. 3 weeks maybe. Got better sleep...

There is nobody nobody nobody like Dr. Rogers. Listening to him I finally understood what I should have been doing and what to do. My cholesterol is now 127 and my hbp is going down. This is after years of being plant based with very little beneficial change. He is absolutely amazing!

Years of being Plant based What did you do different after listening to Dr. Rogers I would think years of being Plant based would have Already had low cholesterol and low blood pressure please tell me the difference thank you
@betzib8021
@betzib8021 Жыл бұрын
@@fracritel my cholesterol had never been above 150. Before hearing Dr esselstyn, about 15 years ago, I ate nonfat yogurt and, only occassionally, I ate sardines. I never ate oil or added salt to anything because I hate the feel of oil and hate the taste of salt.. I did not eat any processed food.. Everything else consisted of salads, fruit, nuts,, seeds,, and sometimes avocados..my BP climbed to systolic of 160. Then I went totally plant based after hearing Dr. Esselstyn, but i ate about a handful of nuts everyday..I am very skinny and I lost too much weight if I did not. However, my bp did not go down. I began taking telmisartan, an arb because I worried about it. The med only brought my average bp to around 145 systolic. I developed a calcified aorta and calcified heart valves. For 15 years I had been eating like this...fruit whole grains..sweet potatoes...nuts, seeds, occassionally avocado..no oil no salt no processed food. My only added salt came in almond milk ( I can't find any plant milk here without salt). I drank coffee and green tea. Still I developed those problems. After listening to Dr. Rogers...I dropped all nuts, seeds, avocados, plant milk ( due to sodium). I switched to decaf coffee and tea (though Dr. Rogers says only water I'm not there yet). I only buy a processed food if it has one ingredient...like rolled oats for instance). I eat oats for fat...because he says it is 16% fat. In two weeks my average bp was 130 systolic. Then it fell to average of 120. I cut my med in half. Sometimes my bp is 110 systolic. My cholesterol is now 125 for total. My systolic bp will always be somewhat high because of the calcified aorta...that can't be undone. I think of all the people like me who think they are eating "healthy fats" while they accumulate damage they don't even know about. They are even worse off if they are eating fish for omega 3s. If I had had the sense to follow Dr Esselstyn's original advice of no nuts or avocados maybe I would've been better off...but dropping all sodium from plant milk (which Dr. Rogers explained) probably made a big difference. Dr. Rogers has other videos on his web site...and the biochem really underpins his statements. I guess that's what it took to make me listen...all those detailed explanations....if only I'd heard him 15 years ago...or way before. Oh well...I'm glad I had this chance now. I hope this answers your question....oh...yeah...I'm skinny. You cannot gain weight on this diet. But one thing helped...I started making a whole grain bread ( no oil no salt with blackstrap molasses for the yeast) with kamut grain that I grind into flour. This has at least kept my weight the same.

I watch Dr. Rogers videos and he has some very interesting information. I rest assured I have done the best I can to protect my health through diet and exercise. I falter on exercise for periods of a few weeks or months and return. I just need to keep building the habit. I have elders who are in their late life and I persuade on occasion concerning improving diet. They honestly could buy a few years and live healthier on our diet. One thing I could do is cook more free dishes for them when I visit. I know that people who realize the dishes are tasty have their eyes opened. They are at increased chance to make the full switch. Regarding being warmer down south which was mentioned. I moved to the southwest for the long duration sun and general lack of cold, desert of Arizona. I moved well before retirement but many obviously do not have that option, or have social networks in their area up north.

His synthesizing the material of other great doctors (and of course the great Nathan Pritikin), and going deep into their research, is just such a joy to listen to. Thanks to doctor Rogers discussing the mechanisms involved in these pathologies. I quite enjoy the molecular biology aspect of medicine. I initially started learning quite a bit about it listening to Twiv, this week in virology which is a podcast run by a professor at Columbia. He invites other virologists and other specialties. A great deal of virology including the development of vaccines would be nowhere without molecular biology. The 'mechanism' of many important processes and pathologies is being determined through molecular biology.

Hi AJ, thanks for this fantastic interview! ??? I have a question for the doctor for next time. Remembering the mitochondria slide illustrating the damage of too much sodium in the body. And how it messes up everything including calcium being in the wrong place. So my question is can he talk about how vitamin K2 is used and is said to be crucial to preventing calcium from attaching to arteries. I've heard two other heavyweight wfpb Drs say K2 keeps calcium out of the heart. What's the connection? ???
