Dean Ornish, M.D. is highly regarded as “The Father of Lifestyle Medicine,” which is the fastest-growing trend in medicine today. His latest national bestselling book, UNDO IT! How Simple Lifestyle Changes Can Reverse Most Chronic Diseases, will publish in paperback on January 4, 2022, the same day of this announcement from a panel of nutrition experts convened by U.S. News. Dr. Ornish is available for in-studio and Zoom interviews to discuss the powerful impact simple lifestyle changes can have in our health and wellness.
For more than four decades, Dean Ornish, M.D. has directed revolutionary research proving, for the first time, that lifestyle changes can often reverse-undo!-the progression of many of the most common, costly, and disabling chronic diseases and even begin reversing aging at a cellular level. This often occurs in just a few weeks or less-and at any age.
Medicare and many insurance companies are now covering Dr. Ornish’s lifestyle medicine program for reversing chronic diseases because it consistently achieves bigger changes in lifestyle, better clinical outcomes, larger cost savings, and greater adherence than have ever been reported-based on 40 years of clinical research published in the leading peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals.
In this landmark book, he and Anne Ornish present a simple yet powerful new unifying theory explaining why these same lifestyle changes can reverse so many different chronic diseases and how quickly these benefits occur. They describe what it is, why it works, and how you can do it:
Eat well: a whole foods, plant-based diet naturally low in fat and sugar and high in flavor-primarily fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and soy products in their natural, unprocessed forms. The “Ornish Diet” has been consistently rated “#1 for Heart Health” by U.S. News & World Report every year since 2011.
Move more: moderate exercise such as walking and strength training. Do what you enjoy-if you like it, you’ll do it.
Stress less: techniques such as meditation and gentle yoga that can enable you to do more and stress less.
Love more: how love and intimacy transform loneliness and depression into healing.
With the Undo It! program, many people are able to reduce or even discontinue medications to lower their cholesterol, blood pressure, or blood sugar they thought they would have to take forever (under their doctor’s supervision, of course). As an example of the power of this program, patients with heart disease so severe they were told they needed to undergo a heart transplant improved so much in only nine weeks that they no longer needed one!
Our bodies often have a remarkable capacity to begin healing if we treat the underlying lifestyle factors that cause them-and more quickly than we had once believed. These findings are giving millions of people new hope and new choices.
With a variety of recipes, easy-to-follow meal plans, tips for stocking your kitchen and eating out, recommended exercises, stress-reduction advice, and inspiring patient stories of life-transforming benefits of reversing chronic diseases-Undo It! will help readers to reverse and prevent a wide range of chronic diseases-and the only side-effects are good ones!
Dean Ornish, M.D., is the founder and president of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute, clinical professor of medicine at the UCSF, and the author of six books, all national bestsellers. He received the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award from the University of Texas, Austin, and the National Public Health Hero Award from the University of California, Berkeley. He was recognized as a “TIME 100 Innovator;” by Life magazine as “one of the 50 most influential members of his generation;” by People magazine as “one of the most interesting people of the year;” and by Forbes magazine as “one of the world’s 7 most powerful teachers.”
Anne Ornish is Vice President of Program Development at the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute. She is the creator of the Ornish Lifestyle Medicine digital platform, including www.ornish.com/and Empower, a turnkey learning management system that trains health care professionals and participants throughout the country. Anne has more than twenty-five years of advanced training in yoga and meditation.
“If you read only one book on health and healing this year, this is it.”
-Tony Robbins
“This book is a life-saver.”
-Beyoncé Knowles-Carter
“This may be the most practical and helpful book you will ever read.”
-Neal D. Barnard, MD, George Washington University Medical School

I am from India and for ages we had the wisdom about foods good for us. But over the last few decades we lost our way and aped the west and are now reaping the rewards in the form of various lifestyle diseases. Thankfully, we are slowly realising our mistakes and people are reversing their chronic conditions in a few months by going off all animal foods, eggs and dairy and including fruits vegetables and complex carbs.

Unfortunately I missed this live, but what an amazing interview, Dr. Ornish is one of the legends! I'm so blessed that I found him and the other WFPB Lifestyle med docs that we know and love, so early in life (High school) when I switched to WFPB, and they have been major role models for me ever since as a future physician myself! Thank you as usual, Chef AJ and Dr. Ornish!

Hi Chef AJ. Dr. Ornish has been around a long time and I have always respected his opinions. Somewhat disappointed for him to report on a public venue that Dr. Atkins died from heart disease. Dr. Atkins died from a head injury that resulted from a fall while walking to work at the age of 72. He had a heart issue called cardiomyopathy but the cause of that is a viral infection, not diet. Hope Dr. Ornish doesn't continue to report this. Enjoy listening to you and your many guests. Happy New Year!!

Such a great interview. Thank you both for what you are doing to bring this information to the world. Dr. Ornish changed my life and the lives of my family members. I read Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease 12 years ago and have been vegetarian and then vegan ever since. The years go by, our friends and family have gotten heart disease, alzheimers, diabetes etc and we continue to be healthy and active. I want to live by example for ALL my loved ones so they see they can have this for themselves.
