Eating lots on a plant-based diet shouldn’t be a surprise. If you see herbivores in the wild, they spend every waking minute eating in order to get their nutrition. Carnivores, on the other hand, eat loads in a short time then sleep or play for the rest of the day. Which is right for humans?
@startingtoday46633 жыл бұрын

@@LILSISTR Sadly for your argument N14/N15 isotope analysis of human remains proves that homo sapiens has been carnivorous for 350,000 years with only the last 10,000 or so having any sizeable input from plants. The amount of sleep a species get has little relation to their diet. Take koala bears for example. They eat eucalyptus leaves and sleep 20 hours a day. Your argument would suggest they are on the wrong diet or are simply lazy. Any argument that tries to relate characteristics from one species to another in order to prove something is bogus and will be easily overturned just by looking at a range of examples.

why this man doesnt have a Nobel prize boggles the mind. He actually came up with a process that cures people. Most doctors dont do that. thank you dr. Ornish
@cynthiajosiej18333 жыл бұрын
All these already existed long back... Haven't you heard about what Daniel ate (mentioned in the Bible)? And that Daniel refused to eat king's food and he looked better than the people who were given a diet that king ate himself!!! Vegetarian diet is better and not just that diet, but also seeking God (ie, pleasing God by doing only good: no resentment, no wrath, no jealousy, no pride, no hopeless, etc. ) Then, in India, there are lots of vegetarians who eat only plant-based diet. Why carnivore diet doesn't work? because at present, they don't have vast grazing field or farms. Instead everyone wants to gain profit in short amount of time which results in failure. They inject hormones on animals to make them grow faster and when something is unnatural is injected in a body, it causes more inflammation. Eating an inflamed animal, causes inflammation in our bodies too. Our liver has to do an extra work to cleanse the toxins injected on what we eat. And when we continuously do that, it exhausts the liver. Diet + good heart (good emotions) gives good health But I really appreciate this doctor for bringing the information to all people. ❤️

As I watched it, my mind wandered on about a problem I was having at work. I couldn't focus on the interview so I paused it to say a prayer and have a brief moment of reflection/meditation on it. When I began to play the video again, it was the exact moment Dr. Ornish began talking about his experiences as a young adult and what he learned about happiness and inner peace. How profound! Can't help but feel this was a divine experience. It was so in sync with what I was asking about. I had no idea he would provide insight on the topic of inner peace. What a great interview! I came across Dr Dean Ornish's book Reversing Heart Disease in 1994, when my husband had a heart attack and quadruple by pass surgery and almost didn't make it. I made him read the book and hoped that he would learn something. We are from India and being vegetarian is no big deal. I had always wanted to be vegetarian so this was a good time. I said - What is good for him would be good for me to. So I became a fat free vegetarian, skimmed milk and no eggs. I was 48 then. Unfortunately, the trauma he put us through didn't make a dent. He became diabetic through the years and is on insulin X4 a day and various other medications now in 2022. I began gaining weight despite the oil free vegetarian diet and in 2017 was the heaviest I had ever been. That is when I discovered the low carb diet, still vegetarian and lost 10 kg in a few months. I have added some fats and oils like Olive oil, butter, virgin coconut oil, clarified butter, whole eggs, full fat dairy and nuts. I have exercised daily right from 1994 and intensified my exercise in 2007 when I developed osteoarthritis of the knees. Today at 76, I still exercise almost daily, have been on long treks in the mountains and can out do people 25 -30 years my junior. The hardest thing for me to do was to give up whole wheat bread, but now I don't miss it at all. The weight loss is my reward.

i am an athletic person who has trained all his life...and my weight has yo-yo'd several times in my life.. i know how to lose weight, eat unprocessed food, exercise, eat only a couple of times a day and a certain amount of portion control. recently i broke my leg badly, and put on 50 lbs, eating junk food and sitting around for 2 years..(the leg is still painful) .. this time due to my inability to exercise properly, I opted to clean up my diet, and went whole food plant based... what i found was that my weight dropped off, sometimes after a little exercise i was losing over 1kg a day. the thing was, i was eating tons of plant based foods whilst this was happening... i mean like 4 bananas, 4 potatoes, a couple of apples , an orange a pear, some nuts, tons of veg and carrots, big plates of rice and beans, even wholewheat bread, and the weight kept dropping when i thought it would increase..after a full days eating. so this diet is the greatest thing i have seen for WEIGHT LOSS, NEVER MIND ARTERY AND HEART AND BRAIN HEALTH. PS. i think the days i lost over 1kg ... was down a lot to actually cutting added salt completely...i think it made me shed tons of retained fluid...that is an unprofessional conclusion, but that seemed to be the case. i will add a sprinkle of salt to my food, but that is it....i no longer cook with salt, and only use a sprinkle and the food tastes fine. the hard part for me was cutting oil....and i feel this is what really shifted the weight , after the salt....i normally use a lot of olive oil and butter, but i stopped using it totally and i feel this enabled me to overcome insulin resistance, and start to eat away at my own fat supplies.

My father died of Alzheimer’s disease and all the other men in his family, i.e., his brothers, also died of it. However, the women did not die of it. They more or less died of the stress of taking care of those who had lost their minds and lost the control of bladder, where to poop, etc. But the women simply could not sit down, and with a similar genome, did better as the rest of the family depended upon them. When the man sat down, they did nothing else. They didn’t read or play the piano, in more modern times, just vegged in front of a TV set, eating the worst foods and drinking the worst rot gut beer out of aluminum cans. Then there were the meds supposedly to help them feel better eating and drinking to destroy their health. They got there. Being female, I also sit down a lot less than my husband and when I am sitting I am learning and engaging with others on discussion of food and how to avoid disease and experience good health as long as possible. Between my father who was just waiting to die and myself, is I am finding a lot of purpose, to which I spend time thinking about what foods to buy, how to prepare them, how to use the foods I have to make a variety of meals so we get good nutrition without being bored by it. When I am listening in, I am playing puzzles. When I get up to walk around in the house, I so and sit down and play the piano, pick up the flute and play several songs that way or off the top of my head compose on the fly or play a piece I’ve heard but never played before. And I can do these things easily. Likewise I compose as I play on the piano and anticipate what chords I need to play. There is learning in this as the piano is harder than the flute, but I can do it and am fairly good at it. The more varied and healthy my diet, both my flute playing and piano playing also benefit. I am an avid knitter so I either am working on a project or reviewing a technique not worked in several years and then figuring out what to make with that. Calculating how much yarn it takes and ordering supplies. I estimate most all of this in my head but check with a calculator. I am generally spot on with my estimates. I’ve gotten over arthritis and even my husband’s clumsiness where he is kicking into my once broken ankle, I find ways to heal it again. I have to admit, that does not make me happy. No, he is not a very happy person, however I don’t want to spend my time being bitter.

I love this interview. I have to say, though in regards to extended family back in the old days, at least in white Western culture, I'm 63 and grew up with a large extended family but there was so much mental illness alcoholism and violence that I left when I was 16. Tried to build extended family on my own throughout the decades, but over and over I was betrayed. I find myself completely lonely and despondent. Even my three adult children don't spend time with me or cherish me

Hello Kamala, I know what you're talking about. I find myself in a similar place at 77, but I make the effort to meet and make friends because it's necessary for our health. Also I moved out of the States to a friendlier place. Best wishes!

Does your diet work for somebody who has extremely high lipoprotein A because I read that higher fats and lower carb diets reduce it. I keep getting blockages and now they want to do bypass on me in the next week or so a quadruple bypass.
@mikafoxx27179 ай бұрын
Go for the only diet to ever be proven to reduce the blockages, like Ornish. Whole foods plant based. get off the oil, salt and sugar and eat vegetables, fruits, tubers, whole grains like oats, not much bread, beans, legumes, lentils and such.

Health and nutrition go together when it comes to reliability and you cannot afford to be sick if you have a job. Cooked diced white onion in my experience is the most powerful vegetable superfood that defies health logic. The more cooked diced onion you eat, the stronger your body's immune system to fight enemy bacteria and viruses including cancer - even if cow products like cow meat or cow cheddar cheese are consumed together with onion. I like walking a lot, physical activity is mostly focused on leg muscles for greater volume to surface ratio - for good blood recycling as the blood is pumped through every blood vessel in the body, keeping the organs active and clean /*\;,.

I did keto years w. Sun I stopped in had 2 A/fib. And my doctor is saying I have 20% clogged arteries. I eat eggs everyday. I’ve eaten eggs for years. I’ve never tried plant eating. How does someone give up there love for burgers? And eggs?? I’m not a diabetic Or don’t drink! Or smoke. I’m 55 now. I lid everyday. I go walking as much as I ca. I live in Pennsylvania. We have crappy weather. And I feel tired a lot. I’m on thyroid and migraine meds.

“Dr berg” will disagree with this 😂😂 he’s not even a real doctor. Keto dangers In the long term The keto diet could cause low blood pressure, kidney stones, constipation, nutrient deficiencies and an increased risk of heart disease. Strict diets like keto could also cause social isolation or disordered eating. Keto is not safe for those with any conditions involving their pancreas, liver, thyroid or gallbladder. The ketogenic diet doesn’t put a cap on saturated fat or even trans fats. The latter are fats you should always avoid. Read ingredient labels and avoid any food with partially hydrogenated oils, aka trans fats. These fats heighten your LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels and lower your HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels. They also raise your risk of heart disease and stroke. Whole food is the best for the body plain and simple.

@@Chris-kr7gg Thank you for asking 🙂Shortly: WFPBD, not too much wheat gluten - which is easy to minimize as refined grains aren't included in WFPBD. Take advantage of Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen app. Eat 2-4 Brazil (=para)nuts daily (secures selenium). Enjoy umami taste by adding nutritional yeast on your foods just before eating. Suitable amount is the amount that contains about 20-25 mg zinc: not too much. You'll get plenty of B6 that way, too. If you like pop corns, prepare those with Zombie-Pop Corn -recipe which is on KZbin: you'll get iodine from seaweed used to replace salt. Read the labels, especially when checking iodine: 150-600 micrograms (ug) is needed - from 100-150 ug supplement, If you don't like seaweed. Always needed supplements are B12 (syanocobolamin) in melting form 1-2 milligrams (1-2 mg) once a week, and If you aren't tanned by sun, then D3 vitamin, which dosage is 1 ug/kg daily (100 ug If you weigh 100 kgs/200 pounds). The science is controversial, what comes to EPA/DHA. To best of my knowledge, 150-300 mg of those ain't far from optimum. That's it! And drink water enough to keep urine quite clear, with a shade of yellow. Nutrition is just one part of science based lifestyle medicine. Dr. Ornish has explaned it well. I hope this helps for starters🙂 There are plenty of resources to get information and recipies, try KZbin "how to start plant based diet/WFPBD". And feel free to ask me more.

@@soilikasanen thanks for the reply I will do my best to take heed, I am trying to change my health but worry that consequences of life after illness have made things too late for me, also I have found a mineral supplement which is purported to have awesome levels of minerals and other things but I'm worried about balance, as I haven't had that for a very long time and I'm not sure how best to utilise things, the minerals supplement is called Life Minerals.
@soilikasanen3 жыл бұрын
@@Chris-kr7gg I'm Finnish M.D, not familiar with that product. You'll get plenty of minerals from WFPBD, so take for example only 1/10 -20% of the recommended dose of that -if you prefer to use it. Our body is wise, when we don't overload it.
