Hello!! My Name is chef Deena from the popular Adupangarai show in Jaya TV Viewers must have seen me in Zee Tamil shows as well. Mam obatoo we pat by hand, poli we roll in wooden rolling pin that’s what my great grand mother taught to us. The correct method of obatoo is patting by hand only. Stuffing you can have your choice. The black thill we get from Gujarat. In shop we get brown black thill

Obbattu is a Kannada word for poli .here in Karnataka the stuffings differ .it may be dry coconut,or toor dal or channa dal or groundnuts ,or til.....etc

Sorry Manonmani. Obbattu is done by hand on a greased banana leaf or plastic sheet. But Poli is rolled like a chappati. In Maharashtra and Karnataka it is called puran poli. Obbattu can be made with different stuffing like kadala paruppu or Paasi parupu. If you don't know the difference please do not misguide folks. There is nothing wrong in saying "I don't know" Everything is a learning curve.

There's no dish called Boli. Poli (puran poli) is the dish from Maharashtra. In north Karnataka, they say "Holige" (p & b shift). In south Karnataka, they say it as "Obbattu". Obba (single) attu (pancake) or simply in tamil as ஓரடை (ஓர் அடை), Ōradai. People in Chennai, Madurai abd all mispronounce Poli as Boli.
