Yes! I’d like to see the cobbler made! I have my grandmother’s dutch oven. She passed away at the age of 86 in 1982. So my Dutch oven is very old and very dear to me.

When my kids were young,we camped every weekend in the summer. We did not have a camp stove or lantern. All of the cooking was done on a camp fire. The noodles looked delicious. Thanks for the review of the cookbook.

I like secondary combustion stoves/firepits because the flames coming out of the holes near the top of the stove keeps the smoke away. Don't put pellets, and wood passed those holes. Then you'll have clean burn.

Beef stroganoff was always one of my favorites my mom would make us. Might I suggest a can of Campbell's tomato soup in place of the ketchup. Gives the sauce a unique and rich flavor. Everything else in your recipe is essentially the same except this small difference. I think she'd add some sour cream too but I'd have to check, anyhow looks like a good meal.

Hello Tayloralthouse, Good Idea! The soup would probably store longer than the ketchup packs.

Oh, refrigeration: dig a hole in the yard, place an ice chest in the hole; make sure it fits fairly well so the ground will keep it cold. It will store things at a cool temperature for 2-3 days....if you can get ice even better.

Another easy "stroganoff". One pound of burger, browned then mixed with one package of dry onion soup mix and half cup of water. Simmer for 20 minutes till the soup onions are soft. Add a cup of sour cream, stir together well. Serve over egg noodles.

too many carbs for me even when it tastes good. my health has improved over the last 12 months of eating beef and eggs from a local farmer who has his animals in their pasture. inflammation in my knees, stomach and hands is gone and my BP is low. i have stopped eating sugar and anything from the store all my food comes from the farm where i can see what the animal is fed and at the local butcher not adding poison to the burger. my money spent on food is 50% lower than when i shopped at a store. i am 66 and on no meds but for an inhaler to help my lungs as i got them full of dirt working the oilfield

Hello DS-nv8bi, Certainly was a meal with a lot of carbs, no doubt! I am glad you found a trustworthy source of meat and eggs and that it has helped your health improve. Hopefully more folks will be able to do likewise.

Those gloves look impressive ... like they could would tame any rebel sparks like snap. Wearing gloves like that mean safety and serious intent. Thanks for sharing the source for them.

Hello Katrinagarland, It was an pressure cooker, that had the handle taken off and the original lid lost. You might find an old pressure cooker at Goodwill or somewhere similar and "convert" it into a campfire pot.

Here’s a recipe that I adapted from one I got off Wicked Prepared’s channel. I made this at a recent campout and it was a huge hit! * 1 12.5oz can Chunk Chicken Breast * 1 10oz can Rotel (Mild, regular or Hot) * 1 15.5oz can beans (pinto, black, chickpeas etc) * 1 10.5oz can cream of chicken soup * 1 15.5oz can hominy (or corn) drained * 8 oz Velveeta (blanco or regular) Put all ingredients in a pot and heat it till the Velveeta is completely melted into it. Serve over Fritos or tortilla chips. (Sprinkle with grated cheese if you have a cooler, but it’s good without it.) Drain the chicken, beans and hominy if you want it thicker. Don’t drain anything if you like it soupier. Can substitute Campbell’s cheese soup for the Velveeta.

She makes “meals in a bag” that have everything you need to make a meal. I just adapted it to my personal taste (I don’t like corn or cannellini beans, for example.) I’m going to make the stroganoff tonight!

For those in apartments or suburbs, how would we minimize the smells of food cooking so our neighbors don’t attack. Starving people’s sense of smell will be heightened. 😟

Hello RitaH, For the fisrt couple of weeks or perhaps a little longer, it might be necessary to use/eat only foods that are ready to eat without any cooking and then cook foods after things have calmed down somewhat.
