You can avoid the blackening of your pots just by coating the outside with a small amount of liquid dish soap before you cook with it. The black easily washes off when you are done.

Way back when I was in Girl Scouts we wiped liquid dishwashing detergent on the bottom of our pots and pans to keep the soot from sticking to the pan. This was back in the late ‘50’s/early ‘60’s. We have a small percolating drip coffee pot at home that has come in handy without electricity. We also made a “Buddy burner”. made from a tall Hawaiian Punch can with one end removed. You use an old fashioned can opener.( the part to punch triangular pour holes to cut four holes along the bottom edge and three holes on the opposite top side where the lid is still attached. You use an empty tuna can with rolled up corrugated cardboard inside of it covered with melted parafin for your fire. We cooked a sausage paddy on the Buddy burner first, then an egg.

Just a note. For the Suite on the pan. When you do the alcohol or a campfire , to make it EASY to CLEAN UP! COAT the OUT SIDE of the pan with SOAP. Recommend, bar bath soap. Suggest Unscented (like ivory). To your comment about no flame adjustment. Just raise up, or lower the pan or rack.

Les, sometimes that tuna can can still be burning and just so low, the flame cannot be seen..so people need to know that, to NOT ADD FUEL unless they are POSITIVE that fire is OUT. We bought a water distiller, and of course, I had to try to make some alcohol with it and ended up with some stuff that MIGHT work in a small engine or mower in a bind. And THAT fuel is even more invisible..I would test what was coming out of the spout, by getting a spoonful, take it to the sink, and light it over the drain. And it was often quite invisible. But very much still lit. Did you know that this kind of alcohol can be made with ONLY water, yeast and sugar? YEP! And it's easy to make to, to run through the distiller. I don't know much about that stuff, but I know it would be a good stove fuel like this. Another great option is a biogas stove, which I think all of us should have on hand..and the knowledge on how to make it. We truly COULD be making our own biogas every day and using it for all KINDS of needs. Why are we wasting all those food scraps and grass clippings, etc?
@josephrogers66898 ай бұрын
You don't even need a still for this. You can freeze concentrate it in plastic jugs in the freezer. Once solid, allow it to drain open and upside down into another container. The alcohol separates from the water when the water freezes. Not recommended for drinking as the heads that you would discard or save for a parts cleaner at the beginning of the distillation process would remain and give you quite the hangover later. A great way to get a higher concentration of alcohol without the expense of a still. Also buy yourself some champaign yeast as it has a higher alcohol tolerance and can get you to 20% just brewing.
@kellycarver25008 ай бұрын
@@josephrogers6689 I have heard of doing this! I never tried it yet, but think it would likely work well. And that's smart, about the yeast, too. Where is the best place to buy that yeast? I should get some of it. I'd like to know why we aren't driving cars that run on BIOGAS? The scumbags want to save the earth, so why aren't we using this organic method to fuel everything smarter?

Three grams of Folgers instant in one of those canisters makes a great cup of coffee at a huge savings over the store bought packets.

Why do more campers not use the alcohol tuna can stove? What about Co carbon Monoxide compared to other fuels?
@ChefPrepper4 ай бұрын
I think a lot of people use alcohol, they just usually use a commercially made alcohol stove like the Trangia or something similar. Those type of stoves are a little safer to use, especially if you are not on a good solid, flat surface. But DIY stoves like these can come in very handy in emergencies. I haven't ever measured any Carbon Monoxide from alcohol fuels. But still you should have a Carbon Monoxide Detector if using any alternative fuels indoors.

This may be a silly question, but have you ever boiled dry beans on this? I see so many talking about storing dry beans but if you don't have power how would you fully cook them? They take 3 hours to cook, over an hour if you soak them overnight.
@ChefPrepper4 ай бұрын
No, I don't think these type of stoves would be a good choice for cooking dry beans. I suppose it could be done, but would take a lot of fuel. Would probably be better to use commercial stove (butane or propane) and use a pressure cooker. Or, use canned beans.

I love this idea! The only thing that concerns me is that I have coil stoves so I wouldn't know where I could put it that it wouldn't overheat the surface that covers the coils. I woukd stay away from the dollar tree or one like it grate/rack. Those things are too flimsy to mess with for hot liquids. Look for a more heavy duty one thats harder to bend. Or else maybe double up the cheap bendy one. Plus for those that dont know it. You wantt to keep those unopen cans away from the heat. They can ex. Plowed (spelled wrong on purpose) . But usually take a lot of heat. Back as kid we thru a few in a campfire for science of course. And they bust and jump and open real nice in a campfire.
