The suggested serving portions on ‘sharing’ items are ignored by everyone because they’re never sufficient for normal people, but our interpretation of a suitable serving and Jamie’s idea of a suitable serving are very different 😂😂 to satisfy Jamie’s appetite and leave him fulfilled after a meal, he needs to quadruple the suggested serving on any product because he’s far from what suppliers deem a ‘regular’ human 😂

@@SortedFood It is much appreciated. I do enjoy these meal kits as they are not available in Australia from what I am aware, though they are often pretty darn expensive if you do a straight currency conversion as it doubles the value ie, 30 pounds is around $60 AUD, still, they would make for an interesting treat. I do miss the old videos where you actually cooked meals we can learn from and offered the recipes, such as your Lea and Perrins series of fav recipes I've grown up with, Lasagne, shepherds pie, spagbol and steak and mushroom pies. I am not keen on the roulette cooks nor the interruption gags as I just want great new recipe ideas and don't like them needlessly spoiled by gags. Even when these guys make really nice looking dishes, the recipes are rarely offered 😥

Dhishoom was the first place in the UK where the food really felt like home. Good to see other fans of it, and GREAT to see Ben call it chai and not 'masala chai'! I once bought a bunch of beers and wines for friends coming over and (as they were all learning the difficulties of drinking on Sunday evenings as working adults) they ignored the alcohol in favour of my making them 3 litres of masala chai. We all sat around the kitchen like a bunch of retired uncles and aunties and had a grand time. :D

Loved the bacon roll kit. The taco kit was great too, and beautifully executed. I really like the no-waste aspect. Chicken burgers are a bit more trouble, but again, no waste and nothing missing. The most appealing aspect is that no thought/planning/shopping/recipe development needed -- a really good reason to support local chefs this way.

There's a bunch of plastic waste though?! 🤨 that's way worse than food waste. Also, there might not be any food waste at your end, but there's definitely waste caused in the production of those kits. It's not no-waste just because you can't see the waste.

@@kayjacoby290 Hey! I know a bit late. But do bruise the spices or better still crush them all in a mortar and pestle. The add them to water with sugar. Wait for it to come to a boil then add the tea powder(use an Indian/Asian brand if possible) reduce the heat. Let it simmer for a few minutes till you can smell the aroma of tea and spices then add the milk. Let it come to boil then switch it off if you want a light tea but if you want it stronger let it come to a boil twice. I hope this helps. wrt recycling, the takeaway boxes are great for freezing portions, also soaking pulses, beans, etc. They last for ages. The more flimsy plastic pots like those you get mushrooms in can be used for mise en place, cat water bowls, herb water bowls. Restaurants’ DIY kits are a wonderful idea! You get to enjoy the delicious food in the safety of your home, while getting a sense of accomplishment for cooking that meal by yourself and helping your local restaurants to stay afloat. It’s too bad that restaurants in my country are not doing any of these things. There’s also, of course, the issue of pricing. Right now I’m trying to make the most with what I have, which is considerably less than a year ago, doe to the pandemic. I’m not sure I could afford a restaurant kit, which is too bad.

A way to combat the plastic waste is to try doing delivery the Korean way. They deliver the food in regular bowls or platters with metal cutlery in distinct bags or boxes. When you finish the food, you wrap up the dishes and cutlery in the bag/box and leave it outside your door and they pick it up a few hours later by the delivery people, no washing up needed! Some things will need to be taken care of by you, like wrappers/foils/cardboard boxes, but those are usually more recycle friendly than any plastics.

I've tried the Cote meal kit with my family and it was absolutely delicious!! 4 of my family had Chateaubriand steak with fries and a side of veg, and then I had the prawn linguine with my dad. We also had garlic bread to start and chocolate crepes for dessert and I think for the 6 of us it came to about £90, which I didn't think was horrific for a really filling 3 course meal from a nice restaurant! We've paid that much for a takeaway from our lock Indian before - would highly recommend!

Great stuff you can get from any Korean restaurant is _kimbap._ It's Korean picnic food, so it's served cold, travels well, and you don't need chopsticks to eat it. Plus, since it's seaweed and rice around a filling, there's all manner of combinations you can find. My personal favorite is a barbecue sauced grilled Spam with kimchi radish and stir-fried burdock. Lovely stuff.

There is a "fancy" grocery store chain (The Fresh Market) that makes a family meal kit for $20 they change it up every week they give you a main and sides for 4 people sometimes the include dessert. Last time we got it it was gourmet burgers (we chose bacon cheddar ones), cheese, buns and cold salad (i.e. pasta salad or potato salad...). Its a way to show people stuff from all parts of the store: buns from bakery, meat from the butcher, salad from the deli counter.
@anjakiiskinen307
@anjakiiskinen307 3 жыл бұрын
I feel like something that should be remembered with these kits is that you would pay a similar amount or more for a frozen/prepackaged dinner kit at the supermarket. So for a simple dinner that supports local in the process, it's pretty great.

You know there are about 42 billion recipes on the web, and you can buy all the stuff in shops, right? I cook things I bought and eat them, and I'm not sold on these 'restaurant kits' that allow restaurants to sell their food without all the overheads. OK so they drop two quid off the portion price and people think they're getting a bargain. But then they have to do all the work themselves. Nice little sting, restaurants. Also, wtf with all this 'support the hospitality industry'? All the hospitality industry has ever done for me is overcharge me for everything I've ever consumed, and now they want to be treated like nurses? GTFO. It's not hospitality when you're paying for it, that's just commerce. The restaurant business is hospitality like one step down from the Red Wedding.

Used to think food kits were too expensive. But after trying one - it’s worth it! Especially if it’s a dish with a lot of ingedients. My dish needed a bit of sesame paste, 4 fresh herbs, sprinkle of dried apples: those ingredients would be an annoyance to buy from the supermarket. I don’t want a full jar of sesame paste! And I’m not planning on using a lot of those herbs in the next few days. So getting the right amount of each makes it affordable and saves space in my kitchen.
