Which is fair enough. They should know when their own food is fucked, and know not to send it. Just toss it, let everyone know you screwed up, and re-fire it. Move on. Don't send it up and hope Gordon doesn't notice. He's not stupid. Don't treat him like he is. Not to mention sending it up, knowing it's gonna get sent back, is just a waste of everyone's time. It's also insulting to the customer that they think the customer deserves sub-par food, just because they're in a hurry to get it out.

I guess it makes sense, they're in a kitchen dealing with hot surfaces and flames a lot. The fire itself was small, and no one was panicking or acting in a way that would've made it grow/spread.

It's probably a common thing to be honest. They're still learning, and a fire is fairly easy to start when you have oil and butter and stuff all over the place, mixed with all the hot stove tops and pans. He's probably not super surprised, and he knows how to handle it. And it wasn't a massive deal, it was just a bit of an inconvenience. I'm sure Gordon himself has set plenty of fires in the past. Mind you, he also wouldn't want to start a panic by screaming at people as there's a fire. He calmly told her to just leave it, to not make it worse and to not burn herself or someone else. And let it go out. (add to that, the customers could probably see the fire and the last they need to see is someone yelling and screaming the instant a fire starts.)

Actually, fires are no big deal. You spill oil on the flat top, it burns, it looks gnarly, but in the end what you have is oil that will burn away in a matter of seconds, some smoke and that’s it. As long as you let it be and don’t try to extinguish it with water (bad idea, especially with oil), not much will happen.

I'd guess because her failure was as a waitress and she never claimed to be a good waitress. She's there to win a COOKING competition. I don't think I've ever seen Ramsay eliminate someone based on non-cooking related dining room mistakes. I even remember one episode (forgot which season), where someone on the men's team who was chosen to be in the dining room made a mistake too and they nominated him. Gordon said "whaaat...? He wasn't even in the kitchen" and couldn't take the nomination seriously.

Chef A gets the first two points, then chef B gets the next two points and then it comes down to the final dish. Oooor Chef A gets 1 point, Chef B gets 2 points, Chef A gets 1 point and then it comes down to the final dish. I stopped watching around season 12, but it was certainly consistent up until then.

They each have a station. So I guess the fish person only memorizes the fish order he yells out. The garnish person only memorizes what they need to.

The orders come mainly in waves, in most 5 star restaurants it only takes about 8 minutes to prepare a dish. So if there are two tables of 4 people and 2 order fish, 4 order steak and 2 chicken it makes it easier. Each person in assigned to a station so a chef really just has to memorize how many things they have to do in their station. So the person in charge of steak just has to memorize that they need to do 4. And there is always a lot of communication within the chefs in order to get everything timed up correctly so that nothing is cold.

I can't remember it all, that's for sure. I could be the best chef in the world (I'm not...) and I'd still fail because I can barely remember 1-2 things Gordon calls out. And honestly, I can't even understand some of it with his accent mixed with how fast he says it. As for knowing who does what. They have stations. I think Gordon decides who goes where based on what he wants to see from each person. I've seen episodes where he's said he put someone on the Fish station to see how they handle it and stuff. In a normal kitchen, everyone would just know where they need to be already, and they'd go there without being told. And if they need to move, then they figure it out.

The issue with the editing is they miss a lot of the cooking stages and usually focus on one person, the commentary focuses on the stressful situations. If the kitchen gets 150 orders at once that’s the waiters fault for dumping orders and the hosts fault for not staggering tables.
