Great video Tush! I’ll have to remember to watch it again if I ever get around to rebuilding my engine.

Great Video. Noticed that the PI version of the 70 uses a dual valve spring set-up. My carb version had a single spring set-up.

I watched it in fast mode, but I always enjoy the tear downs. It's like archeology

Yeah, it’s pretty long John…I figured people could fast forward to the parts they want to watch…like what the bearings/cam/bores look like etc….

That's a slick way to remove the cylinder head. Good news on the thrust washers, I had to replace the crank and block in my '69 because of previous thrust washer damage. I ended up doing the same kind of later crank & flywheel swap you did on your 250.

Hopefully this crank can be rescued since it measured so well…I’m concerned about that ridge at the end though.

Thanks for this blow-by-blow description of the tear down! I really feel like I know that engine just from watching this. It looks to be quite solid and should turn out well. I was reminded of my first tear down of my XK120 many, many years ago.

I think it looks pretty good Bruce. I guess much will depend on how much I want to spend on the rebuild….I’m thinking of cleaning things up, homing the cylinders, re ringing the pistons, machine/ polish the crank, an put new bearings in it. Of course I could get it bored out and get new pistons etc…we shall see!

Yeah the flywheel uses a different bronze-manganese bush behind it for input shaft of transmission to ride on depending on the crankshaft I think. I think the bush is longer. On earlier models.

Great video you two. Tush, I think you should have brought Mica over to keep Rusty company. Couldn't believe how easy that head came off! Also, If I didn't know any better, I'd bet the P.O. ran some type of oil additive and that's why the rocker shaft & bottom end looked greyish or cloudy. Cheers!
@cheftush
@cheftush Жыл бұрын
Agreed, someone else mentioned the additive as well…cheers, Tush
@crasbee
@crasbee Жыл бұрын
The sludge could come from "Oil Leak Stop" additives. If you put too much of that in, the oil becomes slimy like you saw. But it wasn't exactly fresh oil to begin with either 😅

@@cheftush Regarding the clutch parts...what will you go with? I used to see lots of debate in the late 90's and early 2000's about some magic setup...I think the TO bearing was from Koyo, rest from somewhere else. Can you easily order all from Moss or somewhere, or do you still have to cherry pick components?
