I am a bit rusty, as I have not made this in a long time, so why reinvent? your description of the memories of your grandma as you make/consume this dish is so heart warming. Who among us cannot related to that experience. I also appreciate your deep first hand knowledge of the ingredients and the ad hoc role they play in the gestalt of the dish. Bombbbbb I made it and I made it again but added instead of the bean I added ground minced angus beef I sautéed it separately and added it just like she did with beans and juice but my juice was the meat drippings. Nuff said and topped with diced cilantro and radish and jalapeño

I did 1 1/2 cup rice equal amount of water but the water dried up before rice was done cooking, added some more water and it turned out pretty well. I did have the heat on low. Thank you for the recipe.
