I do the same thing! The only thing I do a little bit different is use a brush for baby hair. They usually lay naturally and If I want those curls to look at certain way, I take a little bit of product on my fingers and just direct my fingers the way of my hair and I use regular hairties

there are some hair ties that are bigger for curls. I got a pac of them at target. they are REALLY helpful when I'm doing a bun, Especially since my curls are to my bra strap when dry.
