Get some context at least He was offered a new contract twice. The club want to go with a new style of play that doesn’t necessarily suit Conor’s style of play. They don’t want to tie themselves to him with a contest worth equal to the highest paid midfielders at the club currently. He has also been told that if he thrives in the new system he’d play. The offer was fair as far as I’m concerned and from the owners perspective they are looking after their financial best interests as they should. We can’t complain they’ve spend a billion quid. Atletico is the BEST place for him to play and the club are getting good money for him. I love Gallagher and I don’t want him to go but I think it’s the best outcome. The new owners cannot sign 28-year-old players for big money/wages because the outlay would be financially unsustainable (even if Chelsea won trophies). So the owners have decided on building a younger team that is ready to win in 4-5 years...The belief being that, even if they don't win a lot, the squad will have retained its market value when the average age will be 28. The young Chelsea missed out on CL football by only 6 points, despite Pochettino dropping 11 points at home to the bottom seven Premier League sides...it's not that crazy a plan.
