The reason is we sign these players and expect them to perform without a conducive environment. When Lukaku was signed, everyone was pointing at our shot numbers but failed to acknowledge the team did not know how to create chances for a in-box striker consistently. We have had a crisis of creating for strikers forever. There was a patch of a few seasons with Fabregas where he was a player who knew how to create chances for a number 9. But before that, with Drogba's role not necessitating him to score good amount of goals, Chelsea culturally struggled to get the best out of their strikers consistently, with a few outlier seasons. But we did create a lot for Jackson, but also all of Poch's teams do. If Maresca keeps it up, no striker will flop at Chelsea.

I do rate Gallagher. But i doubt he would suit a Maresca playstyle. He simply isnt the guy for "fast one two touches". With KDH and Santos we got 2 players for his position. And i could see the Gaffer might move Cole into the 8/10 Hybrid Role. So one more in front of Gallagher. In Connors shoes i would consider a move maybe to spain or italy.

Having a 7th midfielder going into this season (given Santos is new + Carney and Lavia have struggled with injury) would be nice but Connor might not be the best fit and surely won't want to accept the wages that come with that role

The issue is that Chilwell has a terrible injury record, we can't rely on him as back up. He likes to attack the ball and flourishes when there's space in front of him to run towards the goal (in a counter-attacking/high transition style) Osimhen would find it difficult to play with his back to goal or when asked to drop into midfield to be involved in the play as an extract man in midfield and create space for the wingers as Maresca likes

Profesional football is not solely about “being available”, u have to be talented and available. Gallagher has some strengths but the way we are moving his strengths don’t match the Chelsea we are building rn.
