Shows you how much has changed in football. Porto were just crowned Champions in Europe. Mourinho started coaching in England. Drogba, Smertin, Ferreira and Cech made their debut for Chelsea. Cech playing without a protective gear. Keane was one of the last hard men in football. Makelele revolutionized the holding midfield role. United had just won a record 11th FA Cup. Ronaldo was a teenager and he lost the Euro on home soil. Fergie was still in charge of Man. Utd. Just 16 players were allowed in the match day squad. The starting 11+5 reserves (1 GK and 4 outfield players). Cech was Chelsea's most expensive GK at the time. Today they have Kepa Arrizabagala

I heard someone here saying beginning of an era which only lasted for 2 seasons. Maybe you forget winning the league in Mourinho first season with Chelsea was their first in 50 hooping years and after that how many more they won since then?

Paul Scholes By a mile, 16 points above 4th....and should've won the FAcup that season. But in the league we were unlucky to get Chelsea away for the first game of the season and still didn't do that bad considering the circumstances with so many injuries and unavailable players for it, Chelsea didn't quite have the same problem with a very expensive squad of fresh players to choose from and home advantage, They also won 1-3 at OldTrafford that season and 1of their goals was offside, ManUtd took the lead in that game, Tiago scored from miles out to equaliser, the only goal he ever scored for Chelsea so it could be looked at as a hit and hope, despite it looked a great goal. No surprises they finished so many points above us in the end after these 2 wins but ManUtd finished 10 points closer to them the following season and then of course dominated for the next few consecutive seasons.

***** I know 2005/06 wasn't as good as so many seasons ManUtd had been used to in the 90's and early 00's because they got knocked out of UCL group stage and didn't win a trophy apart from the league cup (which never used to be one ManUtd's first team really concentrated on) but you still can't call it average (average for Utd but not in general) still finished runners-up with an amount of points that have crowned many teams as champions (83). It's just Chelsea were extremely solid back then and didn't give any cheap points away, only for 2 seasons though.

dcvbhtrdf Chelsea were just that much better that season.
@dcvbhtrdf9 жыл бұрын
+AgentJ2007 Oh yeah correct, in contrast to when Chelsea "won" in 2009/10 when they weren't the best team and literally had to cheat home&away against the best team or else they would've lost the title well before the last day and last game of the season, they just didn't get enough points on the board for them to not need to win both of those games. The 2 narrow 6-pointer wins (which they didn't deserve because they were also 2nd best in these games, especially at StamfordBridge) allowed them to narrowly nick the title by 1 point. You're right, there's some seasons where you can say it didn't really make a difference whether a team was robbed in a game or two, even if it's against a title rival as long as they win by enough points to make it a non-issue i.e Chelsea winning 2004/05 by 12 points (18points above ManUtd) and in 1999/2000 ManUtd beating 2nd place by 18 points etc...these are convincing title wins, not Chelsea 2009/10, shouldn't even be called a win. At least in 2011/12 when ManCity only beat United on goal difference and also needed maximum points off ManUtd to stand a chance, they actually won those head-to-heads fair&square so deserved the title.

Sorry, at the end of the season.the champion is always the best team. No questions about it. They have done the best out of everyone. They deserved it, no questions about it. Let's not bullshit here. Chelsea had the best goal difference. It's United"s fault for slipping in the end.

This was a fortunate headstart for Chel$ea in the title race that season vs a very depleted ManUtd team to only win 1-0. Maybe if Mourinho cared about entertaining football they wouldn't have ran away with it that year. He was only interested in small team tactics go 1-0 up with that amount spent, easy...then ultra defensive to defend it. And to think if that Scholes goal vs Porto hadn't been disallowed when he was played ONside by 4 Porto players, Chelski wouldn't have even gone for Mourinho. Terrible officiating ultimately gives Chelsea the title the following 2 seasons then you have a bunch of complete fools actually talking about the PedroMendes decision at OldTrafford that season????? Did it cost Spurs a trophy or CL place? NO, did it win anything for ManUtd? NO they came 3rd 16pts above 4th Everton with miles better GD. Plus PedroMendes won CL AND FAcup because of bad decisions at OldTrafford AND there was another FAcup game in 2007 where he himself cleared a shot off the line which actually still crosses the line no one talks about any of these that went against ManUtd. ManUtd had bad luck with goal-line decisions that year, including the final vs Chelsea.
