Hi Chels, one of your POD leaders, Judith, here. I absolutely love your honesty. I’m also in a period of my life that is highly stressful and with a lack of appetite I find myself eating some more calorie dense foods. I’ve lost 4 kg’s in the last two weeks and I just have to remind myself that this switch in foods is temporary and not feel to bad for not getting as healthy foods in.

Going for a walk without any stimuli is like therapy to me. I walk my dog first thing in the morning and at lunch time and it really helps level my brain out, especially when my mental health is bad. I then go on another walk with the dog before bed and my fiancé joins me on that one. We use it to chat about our day, tell each other how we’re feeling and generally debrief.

You're doing really great! I love your channel because of you being not perfect...you are so much more relatable than most of the others. My life as a single mother working full time is not a pretty house, pretty dishes, perfect gardens or whatever... it's full of chaos and love and I always need to remind me not to forget about my own health...so I slipped often but in the last months I was always able to get back on track and I am really happy with that!

I so appreciate your honesty! Often times someone feels he/they is all alone in the journey. For me, I am trying to help my husband with his weight loss. I work hard at being as consistent as I can and keep the environment free of trigger foods, but sometimes I mess up. I also struggle myself from an eating disorder so it can be a double whammy when I mess up. Following you has been a game changer - especially because of your honestly and transparency. I really wish there was a coaching group within your plan that would be supportive of me in my role of helping my husband on his weight loss journey as well as help with my own food issues. Hope all this made sense. thanks

Such a timely video, with what's going on with my life too. We're spending all summer in our RV, because our house is being built (hope to move into it by Sept or Oct). But this means yes, my environment has changed. Being in a small RV and very limited counter space for food prep and cooking, is just about enough to get me to skip it and then reach for the easy and more calorie dense foods, which now (it's been about 3 months since moving into the RV on our land) means I've gain back 10 pounds!!. It happened so fast, but honestly I could feel things were going south. You hit on so many things that are so true. The environmental changes which lead to inconsistencies in my routine, long driving days (back and forth from our Tiny House on Wheels - where we've been living for the past 5 years, to our land - which all takes about an hour and 20 mins one way to drive, means grabbing foods on the road instead of being home and having those meals prepped. But you know, I see why things (like weight gain) are happening, I see the end in sight, just a few more months and then I'll be setting up our new home. It's hard to feel the weight gain on me, so uncomfortable, after having been 5 pounds from my goal to now be 15 pounds away from it again. It does sometimes make you just want to say "forget it" and grab the easy stuff, which I do do on occasion. But I like to remind myself that "the healthy feels better" than the extra weight. So thanks for this video, seeing I'm not alone in the ups and downs of the roller coaster of life. And that salad was epic - yum.

I so appreciate your honesty and coming on here to address these things. While 3 or 4 pounds is no big deal it can become a big deal if that's what you make of it in your mind. Which leads to more weight gain etc. I'm such a perfectionist it becomes very defeatist. People are eager to share their successes but downplay their struggles. It's nice to find someone who's human like me and willing to share their struggles so we can all learn how to handle it better. Thank you!

Oh my goodness thank you for keeping it real! Real life, human level, truth and purity. What is perfect!!? No such thing. We are all just perfect the way we are. Being open and honest with ourselves is number one thing we can do for our mental health.

My life is definitely not perfect. Today I was looking over my Fitbit weight / workout / food graphs for the last decade... it pretty much looks like a rollercoaster... but I feel proud of addressing the times I was veering off the path. :) You've inspired me to go plant based for 6 days of the week.... which happens to be how my culture / ancestors used to eat. Feels like a happy balance for me. Good luck with getting back into it!

It’s a real video and that’s what we need. I lost 20kgs and then put it all back on studying. I started thinking about food all the time and was eating badly. I had done keto in the past and lost weight but now I’m vegan it would cut too many foods out and wouldn’t be healthy. I haven’t been motivated to excersize in this weather so I decided to stop beating myself up and focus on my eating. I found your videos and you’re even a kiwi so you get how ridiculous our food prices are. My budget is $100 for me and 2 kids. It’s not easy. First week in and I’ve prepped ingredients which has been amazing. So much more practical than meal prepping. I’m not weighing myself as I start to cut calories and restrict food but I’m being healthy, doing more during the day and feeling good. So thank you for being real. It genuinely helps

Thank you for this video! I'm just starting my current health journey to lose some weight, get fit and healthy again after 4 or so years of struggle with mental & physical health, which was a huge crash after being Coast to Coast level fit. Just got settled into a new country, so now seems like the best time. I've been vegan 8 years now, vegetarian 20 before that, have studied plant based nutrition and sports nutrition... all the knowledge is there. But the mental side, actually applying that knowledge to yourself and committing consistently long term through life's ups & downs is a totally different challenge.

This was so meaningful to me. I’ve been really coming down hard on myself when I get outside of what I consider to be my ideal. So, I can relate 100% with the small fluctuations with life and thank you reframe that it’s actually a very big win. I’m realizing through this that keeping within a very small range around travel and holidays and stress and feeling healthy as I do it is wonderful and I should be celebrating my success rather than beating up that I’m not perfect all the time.

Oh, Chelsea, I can completely relate to the blahs and falling out of good habits with changing situations/ environments. I have maintained a healthy weight for the past 10 years and my weight has fluctuated about five pounds the past five years. Right now, I am up a few extra pounds as well and I am reminding myself about my commitment to this healthy lifestyle. I have found summer boredom to be a driving force behind my less than helpful food choices recently. Accountability is really important. I check in with my family every weekend in a group I moderate and I weigh in daily. I feel better knowing I am not alone in this journey. Thanks for being such a great ally and supporter!

Good to see you -This is REAL life-This is GOOD stuff you are sharing! You are still putting one foot in front of the other despite all of life’s hassles, ups & downs. Whats the old asian proverb? Fall down seven times, get up eight? Just sending some positive vibes because your videos are remarkable & you are inspiring so many. At almost 62 and still beating back each day, with bizarre wt gain fluctuations about 10 lbs-not 4 or 5, {i wish) w/constant interruptions -right after restarting exercise, eating fantastic Then the issues seem to pile on-friends, family , grandchildren, work, car, bills,feeling too off or too tired, falling completely off my game again… but get back in the saddle! This video is refreshing & encouraging. Two rules I have are rule #1 never give up. Rule # 2: never forget rule number 1. Often women/mothers/grandmothers are the unsung heros in the world with the toughest jobs. High five to you and hang tough young woman. 🙏 Blessings to you & your family.

@jules9628
@jules9628 Жыл бұрын
@@ChelseaMae Too many books & decades of learning to share here. I will use the book Atomic Habits you liked as an example -many or most of those rules therein are old truths that have stood the test or time. Get used to being out of your planned schedule-we all have those unplanned events/happenings that wear us down as we try to stay to our daily self care plan. Seneca the philosopher taught “voluntary discomfort “ so we dont fall apart when life gets out of our comfort zone & we get off track w/diet, exercise & other goals & achievement we are working on; Interruptions from our children, a spouse, friends, & so on where you feel caretaker to everyone but your own self… But training the mind to put one foot in front of the other back on track each time will give us peace of mind, which doesnt depend on thing’s always going our way in order to succeed. Taking care of self the best we can, is not selfish , for then we can be the very best wife & mother, coworker and friend to other’s & community. Looking forward to your next video-as always.😎

Not sure if you've done a video on this topic before, but I'm interested in how you manage balancing overall total calories around a time when you've had a lot extra in a day or meal. For example if you have a fancy meal out, or you're celebrating something with friends and having some drinks, or like me you've moved to a new country and have to explore all the amazing vegan options available haha.. those times when you end up adding like 1000 extra calories into your day. but obviously you can't just starve yourself the rest of that day and the day after to try and get your overall calories down, but you also can't eat like you normally would have or you'll end up in a big calorie surplus instead of deficit or even maintenance. I don't believe in always missing out on those things - if I want to have a fun night out, or if work is paying for a 7 course dinner, or I'm catching up with a friend for coffee & cake.. I believe they are part of an overall mentally healthy lifestyle, but also don't exactly align with weight loss goals.

re The Power of Being Bored - I am not Jewish but I would join in (by myself at home) on their Sabbaths - as in look up the times on Jewish websites when the Friday & Saturday sunsets would happen in my city - and follow their protocol as much as I could - food was prepped before I started, phones/computers/tv off, walks only around the neighbourhood because no cars or bikes etc and it was the MOST amazing experience that I cannot explain it. I cannot achieve the same result any other way and has to be experienced to be believed. It is referred to as 'sharpening the blade' for the week. As a family unit with kids, it would be so connecting. The time to join in is imperative to be ready beforehand, otherwise the feeling of the energy shifting will be missed - you can feel the collective energy in yourself. I don't know if you have ever meditated around other serious mediators where you can feel the energy, it is like that but on a bigger scale. I want to get back to that some day but I would have to skip an event I love on Friday nights and right now I am not willing

Well done for resisting those cookies for now but they might tempt you tomorrow. I don't buy that food at all anymore, I don't even see it as food and it does not tempt me in the least. By eating this kind of food from time to time you are teasing your brain and taste buds to want it more. I am glad I got cookies and other junk food that was controlling me out of my system, I don't want them anymore and I am sure if I had some I would now find the sweetness too much. And they're bad for your teeth, you're probably too young to have dental problems but they're awful and they affect most people as you get a little older.

I switch between countries four times a year. My weight goes up and down. Uk I gain, Singapore I lose. So tired of the yo yo. Christmas is the worst. Sometimes think I should just refuse Christmas and hide away for that month. Environment is key.

Thanks, Chels! I love these keepin’ it real videos. This is life. Long-term success means lots of grace and refocusing again…again…again. I’ll hit my 5-year wfpb-iversary in October. My truths: my mom died last December, I started taking hormones for perimenopause symptoms two months ago and similar to what you shared my appetite is less because of the rx, I’ve made movement more fun and easier while the kids are home for the summer by subscribing to my yoga studio so I can stream classes at home, and I always veer into more treats and processed food in the summer (helloooo frozen vegan pizza after a long day at the pool). Lots of stressors in the last 6 months and I’ve identified my least common denominators, which are daily/monthly targets that if I at least hit those, I feel accomplished. Daily: oatmeal, steamed veggies (some is better than none, even if I don’t hit 1lb), big a$$ salad (although any salad is better than none), potatoes, meditation and monthly yoga 8x. I’m understanding that I have to stay hungry for this lifestyle erm…for life, for me to reap the benefits.

Hi. I’ve been watching your videos for a while but I’m not a vegan but probably closer to one than I think. Just wondering what are your thoughts on menopause and trying to lose weight. Reading so much and jus let wondering if you’ve done any research on this and using your program etc.
