I haven't shared my story in so long.. it felt so good to be able to share again. since I became injured my story has grown so much.. so catering my speech here specifically around drunk driving and choices was so close to home. I hope that any person that hears my story thinks twice before getting behind the wheel or getting in a car with someone drunk.
I would love to come to speak at your school or event:

My husband was you….twenty years ago. He was hurt in a car accident, 17 yrs old, all the kids had been drinking & he hit the guardrail on a highway, the tire blew out and the car was airborne. When they landed he said he was touching the grass outside his window as the car had landed on its side. He saw black spots and slowly felt the feelings in his legs leave his body…like pins and needles at first and then, nothing. Today he is a C6/7 quadriplegic. And like you said, life changes instantly and you now have to rely on others 24/7 to help you. God Bless you, and thank you for sharing your story. While life may be challenging for you now, I can tell your strength, faith and love of family will guide you through. ❤

Thank you for sharing your story. I grew up with an alcoholic parent. He'd take my sibling and I to bars and drive us home while extremely drunk, sometimes to the point where he'd do something stupid like speed up a tall dirt pile to try to jump it. My sibling and I are so lucky to have made it through our childhood without being in a wreck, but I was still put into uncomfortable situations. For example, one of his enablers and friend got drunk and led the police on a high speed chase because he knew he had too many DUIs and would've been sent to prison. They caught him eventually... but not before he accidentally ran over one small child as his class was crossing the street he was speeding down. The child was severely injured but thankfully recovered. I now steal the keys of people who drink at my house, and tell them to either stay the night or call a ride.

I despise drunk drivers. I can’t stand alcohol. I’m glad I’m driving sober. I’m all about driving sober. I did saw the “drunk driving” commercial that happened 2007 about drunk driving. “Sir, have you been drinking tonight?”, “sir, have you been drinking this evening?”, “sir, have you been drinking this evening?”. DUI is a serious crime. It’s not a mistake, it’s a serious choice. I’m glad that you told your heartfelt story, Chelsie. Note to self: never drink and drive.

I've never drank and drived in my life ever because I personally know the seriousness of how dangerous it is. But I have known and know several people that see no problem with it and feel they are good drivers even drunk or buzzed. So always share your story anywhere you can if it helps one person wake up that's 1 life potentially saved. I'm gonna show this to my S/O who has had DUIs before even tho he's sober now he still needs to see this. Ty for sharing.

Babe, I can handle a lot of things, but this was shattering to watch. I am so sorry for your pain, and what you went through, and I am so proud of you for being here to share it. I cry for your friends and your lost sense of youth, because somethings that traumatizing just rips everything apart. I am a new driver and am terrified just for this reason, but I thank you for sharing love. I couldn't imagine being that selfish as to drink and drive.

You are so strong, not because of your disability (bc I really do hate when ppl say that to me just because of the wheelchair) but you are strong for sharing this, for taking what had happened to you and doing something amazing with it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. And I'm sending you lots of love.

Thank you for sharing your story. That was emotional to hear all of that about yourself and your friends that have lost their lives. My deepest condolences to you and their families. I’m curious if this public speaking was from an organization that asked you to share your story? The reason why I’m asking is because it brought back memories when I shared my story with some local schools from a non profit organization called, “Think First” a very long time ago. I ended up having some health issues and had stopped but I’ll always remember this. It only lasted about half a school year for myself speaking. One thing I learned from “Think First” was to call it a “car crash” and not an accident. Sure it was an accident but it was a horrific car crash that changed my life forever too. I was driving. I wasn’t drinking or driving fast. I was mad at my boyfriend, driving alone in my car, wasn’t paying attention to the road, didn’t make it around a corner and went off the road into a ditch. Was ejected out of the front windshield, my car ran me over and shattered my right arm, punctured my lungs, broke my back t4/5 complete, was in a coma for 4 days and was given low percentage to survive. I totally resonated with you Chelsie when you made that comment that you don’t know why you lived. I use to wonder that for decades. (I was 19 and am now 61). Why me living as a paraplegic and not dying. People have told me that God has a plan. A different plan for me. To this day I’m not sure what my plan is and I’ve come to the conclusion several years ago that I’m okay with it, finally. Your plan Chelsie, may be to spread awareness like you did in this video and to have your listeners “think first” before getting behind a steering wheel and drive. I chose not to wear a seat belt in 1980. Belts weren’t mandatory back then. If I had mine on I may not be a paraplegic today. If I wasn’t driving mad and not paying attention to the road I probably wouldn’t have been in a car crash. Period. I’ll share my story when strangers ask me, What happened? I always tell them, Don’t drive mad. Always buckle up. (I don’t think I’ve ever shared my story as much as I have just now on yt and I hope that this was okay. I just related to a lot)

You are an amazing person. God bless you.. I know it's hard to talk about it.. I have hard time talking about mine as well im almost going to be 22 years of the accident thst I had... Mine wasn't a drunk driver mine was that my "Friend" she was playing around with her bf while driving.. I was 19 yrs old when my accident happened... I was in a coma for 1 month and the doctor told my mother that I wanst going to make it and that she should donate my organs so I could live in other people s bodies. Thank God my said no that she had the trust in God that o was going to live. But my life was hard at first like a year I didn't want to talk to no one I just wanted to be alone in my room... But the second year I just said to myself that if I wanted to die or live and do what ever I can to be better every day so I decided to be strong and do things right. Everyday when I wake up I give thanks to God for the good and bad times and keep going.

what a very powerful story! All it takes is one miss hap without thinking, and that's it, everything changes for the worst. Everyone involved ends up paying a nasty bill! Me and my two mates were at our local pub, My mate had his car with him. He said to me, you are still under the limit, ( i only had one and half pints) i said yeah. He said ok there is the keys to my car, go and park it outside your house and put your security lock on it. My house is yards away from the local pub we were at, so i took the car and did exactly that. Doing that prevented him been tempted to drive home, because he got into a bit of a state. This was nearly 20 years ago, and that was the very 1st and the very last time he took the car, and it was the only time i ever moved a car from A to B with drink in my system.

Way back on December 31 2009 3:00 pm a drunk driver hit me and my ex husband and two children in a wrong way head on collision. We are very lucky to be alive. I have had to have two cervical vertebra fusion surgeries, I have thoracic discs that are causing extensive issues, and lumbar vertebra also causing me issues. I now use a wheelchair. Don't drink and drive.

Chelsea, Thank you for telling your story. I’m sure you’re saving lives! I’ve been watching your videos, but I have not been able to find the one where you demonstrate getting your chair and yourself into your car. Please send that link, as my husband will be in a chair soon. Also, what is the make of the instrument that enables you to control gas and brakes of your car, with your hand. We have so much to learn. Thanks for sharing your story!

Anyone who is dumb enough to drink and drive should have their license taken away for life, because that is the most irresponsible thing anyone can do. And if they are caught driving after that, put them in prison for life. This HAS to stop.

You should've got out. When you saw that red solo cup period. You choose to to get in. And when you came up on your home stop. You should have gotten out. You had a choice. But you wanted to get 8n that car. I feel bad for what happened to you. But you could have made a better choice. You saw your surroundings and stayed in that car. I had many friends killed by neglectful dumb ppl like this. And the ppl in the car are also responsible for not saying something. Period.
