The number of atom present in last shell is called its valency.

For ex if we see sodium having atomic number 11 so if we arrange the number of atom in each shell then we will find that the number contain by the fst shell which is the shell k which contain 2 atom, shell L is the second shell which contain 8 atom and last one which is shell N contain 1 atom.
