When sulfur is heated over 160 degrees C, it forms high molecular weight linear polymers. The polymer form is a brown and rubber-like substance.

Yes, Virginia (and New York and Iowa), this form of sulfur does eventually turn back into the bright yellow form!

Does the polysulfur eventually turn back into the powdery form? And how does one melt sulfur without burning it? I was thinking of doing this under CO2 atmosphere instead of air. Any tips?

Keep this away from people who are allergic to sulfur compounds or who have asthma. Also, keep it away from pregnant women.
