Hi Rebecca, it's so nice to see multiple faiths being celebrated together. I grew up, for the most part, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am Roman Catholic but went to a Jewish/Hebrew high school. I loved it mostly because I had so many days if school off because of all the holidays. Love watching your videos and seeing all the wonderful dyed yarns.

Thank you, Wanda! Oh the days off for all the holidays... but note that we don't get days off for Chanukah! ;) It is a fun family holiday. The kids are so wild with us doing candles etc every night, though. I'm trying to get some bits filmed to share some of our traditions, but it has been a wee bit chaotic around here this week.

I love yellow in my yarn, it’s very difficult to get a beautiful yellow when you have other colors on the yarn also, sadly.

Simply stunning! Sooooo soft, and the colors are just beautiful. Such a gorgeous rainbow. One of the things I'm enjoying most about my sampler is that I tend towards cotton/cotton blends, which means I don't get to experiment with food coloring as a dye source. Also, I get to experience all the different textures of the various wool/fiber types. Thank you so much for offering the Chanukah 2018 Sampler!

I'm so glad that you're enjoying it! I waffled for a while between using one yarn base so the minis could be combined easily into one project or sharing the different textures with all of you. I opted for the textures since I know so many of you enjoy dyeing, too, and it is a nice way to test different bases etc. :D

I think a lot of kits come with 5/6 but then the "deluxe" kits out here can have 9. I always shop by the tablet number versus what the box says, though. :D

I used to get tablets to drop into my daughter's bath that would change the color. It really helped her learn how color works, do you think they would work for dyeing yarn? They never did dye my daughter, though.
@ChemKnitsTutorials5 жыл бұрын
They might! I think a lot of products use food coloring for things like that for safety reasons. You never know unless you try.

what would happen to the yellow if you left more space between the orange and yellow and the yellow and green tablets and squished the others together a bit more.?
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
I think that more of the yellow would show up if I had left a bit more space. It frequently gets overpowered, though.

This is stunning! And sooooooo soft! Question: The yarn is specified as sportweight, but it seems much closer to a DK weight. Did the yarn bloom with washing? I'm just curious. The yarn is incredible and is indeed really really lovely
@GKDmomma6 жыл бұрын
Guess what? People who reviewed this yarn on the KnitPicks site also consider this a DK (or light worsted) weight as well. See www.knitpicks.com/yarns/Bare_Andean_Treasure__D5420259.html. Needless to say, I won't have any problem knitting with this! 😊
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
It might have. I don't think that I had any of the bare left to compare it to. it is sooo osooooo soft. :D
@adalai76496 жыл бұрын
@@ChemKnitsTutorials actually, I don't think the yarn was changed at all by your process. The reviews on the KnitPicks site all day the same thing, so I think KP was slightly "off" when they categorized it as sport weight. It's gorgeous and beautiful and it really doesn't matter what weight it is.
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
I tend to swap sport and dk for one another a lot anyway. ;)
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... it has less yardage than the DK's, but that could also be a weight/length difference of the alpca (220 yards in andean treasure vs 246 yards in the other dk's like paragon.)

Hi c&m, I will have a special Christmas episode of Dyepot Weekly (which will fall on Christmas Day this year.) I decided to do a big Chanukah event for a couple of reasons and to invite everyone, Jewish or not, to celebrate along with me. There weren't a lot of options for Chanukah samplers but a lot of other dyers offer advents so it fit this fit both into my background and into a gap in the community nicely.

I haven’t even watched it yet and I know I’m going to love this video. Thanks for doing these tutorials, I really enjoy them. Check out my podcast if you’re in the mood, I just recently started up in an effort to motivate myself to do more knitting. Your videos are inspiring me to dye yarn for my next project. I have some really inexpensive wool blend yarn in my stash that I think will be perfect to experiment with. EDIT: and loving this Chanukah special series
