I just got through chapter 2 of the memoir and I had to hear this song! Which she talks about the sad experience of what her mom Georgia with those horrible nuns who tried to force her to give up Cher for adoption - how crazy is that! Thank God her mom refused and eventually got Cher out of there- this new memoir is incredible! I had no idea how much Cher’s mom went through - so sad

This song hit me hard..made me cry. It reminds me of my mother. The shit she went through in a orphanage around the the time Cher did. No one knows what she went through in there but I have a pretty good idea. My mom's stories was horrific. Sad that they would take the authority to treat children the way they did.

The sisters of the BVM helped me when my mother would send me to school with no lunch. They gave me what little they had to eat. Will never forget that.

This song sums up the Catholic nuns who ran the mother and baby homes in Ireland years ago. The horror that went on behind those walls.

And also the song is about Cher's childhood, she was separated from her mother and taken to an orphanage.

Yes, some nuns are very faithful. On the other hand, some nuns are very evil. This song reminds me of my recent.encounter with a Benedictine nun. I have been accused of having the patience of Job. That nun really pushed me beyond measure. I read the riot act to that German nun. When I confessed such to my spiritual director, he said her time was long overdue. For inquiring minds: my spiritual director is a high ranking priest.

Your faith is not faithful Your grace has no grace Your mercy shows no mercy Is there no way out of this place? There's a baby crying softly In a dark and dangerous place She' imprisoned by no language Fear grips her tiny face In god's house she held a hostage By a cruel and heartless mob There's some rule they think god' written And it justifies their job Sisters of mercy (Sisters of mercy) Daughters of hell (Daughter of hell) They always weave their web of lies and wrap you in their wicked spell Sisters of mercy (Sisters of mercy) Masters of pain (Masters of pain) They try to crucify your Innocence and do it in gods name There's a baby sobbing softly In a crib that's now a cage She's done nothing to deserve this but it sanctifies their rage They use god like he's a weapon only for a chosen few Then hide behind pious faces like the guilty always do Sisters of mercy (Sisters of mercy) Mothers of shame (Mothers of shame) A baby only gets to heaven if she's baptized in his name Sisters of Mercy (Sisters of Mercy) Daughter of war (Daughter of war) These chicks administer your penance while the devil guards their door Your faith is not faithful Your grace has no grace Your mercy shows no mercy Is there no way out of this place? There's a baby who's a warrior Sometimes tears run down her face As she wonders should she fight or simply vanish from the race She's only one lesson It's pride comes before a fall The karma train waits for no man but god waits for us all Sisters of mercy (Sisters of mercy) Twisters of truth Twisters of truth Ya can't condemn you or forgiver you for your sins done in my youth Oh, sisters of mercy (Sistets of mercy) Daughters of Cain (Daughters of Cain) I see their wilted fading powers running flowers like rags out In the rain Sisters of mercy (Your faith is not faithful) Mothers of hell (Your grace has no grace) Your mercy has no mercy (Is there no way out of this place?) Is there no way out of this place? Your grace shows no grace (Your mercy)shows no mercy Is there no way out of this place? Is there no way out of this place? Your mercy shows no mercy (Is there no way out of this place?) Is there no way out of this place Your grace has no grace

Drama queen Cher was an infant so if it's infected true she was in an orphanage she was too young to remember it was only there a couple of weeks if at all. Now let's hear how to write a song knocking the Buddha religion. What a disgrace.
@whitneystevens51003 жыл бұрын
It could also be referring to the orphanages that actually do abuse children and maybe the fact a lot of catholic priests were accused of molesting and raping children…
@feef57912 жыл бұрын
At that time, many religious orphanages mistreated children, many of them died, lived in precarious situations.

People can write songs about anything they want. They don't have to have lived it. People can use their fame to highlight certain historical issues... and that's what Cher is doing in this song. Songs aren't necessarily meant to be taken literally...

I thought this was about Cher's mom. Not her
@erinreilly5401Ай бұрын
Actually she writes in her memoir about the months she spent with these nuns as a baby/toddler and how they kept her from her mother, only allowing her mother to see her through a window, and it was only when a man came with her mother and threatened the nuns with a lawsuit, did they let her have her baby back. Many many babies were taken by the Catholic Church because mothers were unwed.
@jeffreyzeiss13262 жыл бұрын
Anti-christian... she's degraded herself ever since Sonny left her ( and yes folks he left her first and filed the separation).
@feef5791 Жыл бұрын
Don't like Cher? Okay, but stop talking bad about her, this song is painful, so many kids have suffered in places like this.
@sandraatkins2539 Жыл бұрын
This song is not anti-Christian. She is simply exposing the evil perpetrated by those evil nuns. The nuns were known for treating children horribly in those orphanages and parochial schools. That is why some Catholics despise nuns to this very day. Fortunately, there were some good sisters, but far too many children experienced horrific treatment at the hands of the nuns. Since Cher was not a White child, it's likely that the sisters were even more brutal towards her. Afterall, Dr. Shannon Dee Williams' scholarly book titled "Subversive Habits" reveals the ungodly treatment they have historically displayed towards some of their own non-White sisters. Unfortunately, it's known to still exist in many convents and monasteries.
