Unique footage from deep within the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, with Aleksandr Agulov as our guide. On the night of April 26, 1986, Agulov was on duty as senior operator of the Unit 3 main circulating pumps. After the explosion he took multiple trips through the radioactive ruins in search of his missing colleague, Valeriy Khodemchuk. In this interview he leads us step-by-step through the bowels of the plant, and tells his story of surviving radiation sickness after the accident.
That night Agulov visited perilous areas beneath Reactor 4, including the very spot where the infamous Elephant's Foot would soon appear. At 31:24 he and the film crew can be seen standing in the mirror image of that exact corridor in Unit 3, showing what it would have looked like before the corium flow arrived.
