I mean, you can get some really cool 360 drone footage that way. Better yet how about this: You go to an open space, roof or otherwise. Use drones for that great 360 degree video capture but combine it with augmented reality where Simon basically does the minority report thing where he pulls up schematics and other info to show the viewer. Then we have a zoom in scene switch where it goes from the schematic to the real thing. Would it be a lot of work, yes. Would it be possible with current day technology, absolutely. In the end it's the viewer, not Simon that has to see the result, he just has to do the right movements to make it work with special effects added later.

So that "innovative" procedure of using jacks to build the structure up is actually what they do to build grain silos. They build the roof, then jack it up til they can fit a ring of the siding. Bolt it on and then jack it up and repeat. Keeps you from needing something as hard to move as a crane. Obviously applying it to such a massive structure is different, but its very much not a new way to build.

Once they noticed they pressed the AZ button which shoved the boron control rods down, but when the graphite moved downwards, it displaced the water, the heat exploded several fuel rods, and locked the graphite in place, pressure rose until the maximum pressure of the reactor was breached' throwing the lid upwards like a frisbee.

It was only a partial meltdown, or a "Level 5" event. Chernobyl was a "Level 7" and is the only "Level 7" event so far. The level system is the Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale. 0-7, 7 being most severe. Chernobyl effected far more people & we are still trying to contain it even after 34 years.

Hello Simon, I like to give you some aditional information about the New Safe Confinement, (NSC). As you already explained, the NSC was built by two Main Contractors. And there were also a number of subcontractors, of course. One of them, was the Dutch company Mammoet, ( wich actually means 'Mammoth'). Mammoet was responsible for the lifting of every part of the construction during building, but Mammoet was also THE company wich had the honour to actually 'move' the NSC from it's buildingplace to the Sarcophagus. And, being a Dutchman, i am very proud of that!! For the sake of completeness: The New Safe Confinement is 165 meter long, 256 meters wide, and 110 meters high. Inside the NSC there is a gantry crane, to lift the parts of the sarcophagus and other parts. But this hasn't happened yet, because the radiationlevels inside are still far to high to literally dismantle the sarcophagus. It will take pretty much time before this can be started.

It's remarkable that they did not have the planning or resources to build a containment building before the disaster.... ...but they found the time and resources to build it, after the disaster, when it took needless lives lost to assemble it.

three mile is only level 5, this is a level 7, a full meltdown en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Nuclear_Event_Scale
@mooniejohnson4 жыл бұрын
Three Mile Island, and I'm definitely not denying the severity of it, was only a leak... Chernobyl was an explosion of a reactor core that ended up killing hundreds of thousands because of incompetence.
@chrisburn71784 жыл бұрын
@@mooniejohnson Oh yes they're definitely incomparable, but he did describe Chernobyl as "the world's first nuclear meltdown" and that is definitely disputable if not refutable. Completely melted reactor material reached the containment vessel at TMI, and it was only due to the superior safety of the design that it didn't escape.
@AL41404 жыл бұрын
Floss Man it wasn’t a “leak” it’s was a partial meltdown. The difference between the two was other than one being a full meltdown, TMI was built with containment. Chernobyl didn’t have any secondary containment, it only had the actual structure. If TMI was built as cheap as Chernobyl it would have been way worse but the majority was contained.

It's worth mentioning that in building the first containment unit was built they had to rush break new ground on nearly every level engineering science etc but also do it in an lethal environment one no one had ever worked in before. I don't care who you are that's impressive

As an operator of those jacks (actually called strand jacks) i can tell you they get used on a daily basis worldwide. they come in sizes from 15ton to 1000ton for one jack. granted, the 1000 ton ones dont get used 5 times a year but all the others are in daily use. Would have loved to be part of this project, sadly it went to our competitor (who did a great job there)
