Wow great to see the old tourist areas from the late 50’s and 60’s still running. When I was a kid these places were everywhere and my Grandma cannot pass up A good junk shop ( souvenir shop). The men in the Car would roll their eyes heavenly begging for mercy As a bunch of women In their sky high bee hives hairdos Would scramble out of the car and us kids followed to be sure to con Mom into buying us some rock candy on a string! I am 57 and that’s what summer vacations were all about. Today people don’t even bother going to these places much young families are planning to go to Disney World and spend way too much money standing in line for hours For a minute long ride or a seven dollar Pepsi lol!

We vacation in the Smokies when I was a child one of my favorite places was Cherokee. It’s so different now, back then there was Indians dancing and the shops were a buzzing with so many people. We camped on both sides of the mountain. Maggie’s Valley was also a hot spot with Ghost Town and Frontierland. Since the casino open it’s all changed. I will have those memories of what it was like in the 60s for me to cherish. It was so exciting in the 60s in Cherokee. Now my husband and I try to go there once a year. We rent a cabin and just just enjoy relaxing, eating shopping and riding in the mountains. Thanks to your videos I now see allot of places I want to see.

Such great childhood memories in Cherokee for me also. You would drive on the main road going into the Park and the shops were on the side of the road. It looked more like a fair back then. I really miss it. Being on the side of the road was Dangerous. But it was so exciting back then.

Gosh we use to go to Ghost Town In The Sky when I was growing up,I sure miss it!! I also remember going to a cement water slide in the summer,so fun!! We would stop at this roadside fruit stand, and get hot boiled peanuts that they put in a gallon glass cider jug😊I could go on and on,lol 🥰

Y'all, when I was a kid we stayed in the Pink motel every year. We usually went once in the summer and in the fall. Last time I stayed there was in 2015. The bathroom in our room was straight out of the 50s. Pink tile with black tile trim....floor to ceiling. I've also had many meals at Peters Pancakes. Their pancakes are pretty delicious. When we go now we stay on the Townsend and Wears Valley side of the mountain.

My family and I went there 11 years ago during the summer and they had the ceremonial dancing and you could get your picture taken with a native american. It's definitely a seasonal place to visit. During the winter alot of places are closed and not many tourists around.

Great video. Another really great store to visit is Bearmeat's Indian Den. A lot of beautiful authentic Native American arts & crafts and wares. They have a back porch that hangs over the river. I stayed at the pink motel in the mid 1960s. Clean room, and a door on the other side so you could sit on the river, had grills to cook burgers and such. Liked the campgrounds on the river where you could fish for trout. That was on reservation land.

I was born in Franklin and went to the Indian reservation a lot Mom was kin to the chief I wanted to see the tee pees but they lived in small houses and of course a lot of home brew the chief liked and mom got some for medicine I loved to sit on porch and listen to his stories about his days before Mom even went and got all these roots and flowers to brew up yuk but those were the good old days love the falls and would love to come back to live again

Love going here as a kid my brothers and i would camp with our scout groups just a little ways out from downtown Cherokee. At least our parents have old videos and pictures. Would like to see all the stores back open. Usually take hwy 411 now days to get Pigeon Forge. But usually drive over the mountain to see the elk in Cherokee from time to time . As a photographer I find myself getting away from it all a lot while in the smokies
