They do have a tendency to be territorial and can be semi aggressive. I had a big group (2M 8F)and the largest female took over half the tank and wouldn't let any fish in her territory. I had to get rid of her and everything was fine.
@BoysGotit2 жыл бұрын
I have a male that does that you can try removing her or putting her in time out for a while or you can even buy a time out box and keep them in it for a week or so and sometimes that changes their behavior also switching the decor around will sometimes confuse the fish into stopping that behavior. Worse comes to worse you can rehome the fish and replace it with a new more tame fish.

Cherry Barbs are undoubtedly some of my favorite fish! I'm glad you agree that Cherries need a larger school than the default of 6. I also think that there may be some merit to reversing the gender ratio. Obviously every situation is different, but I have 10 males and 5 females in my 75 gallon, and they're actually pretty mellow. The boys keep each other busy enough that no one fish gets singled out and bullied, and they keep to themselves and leave the girls alone. (This wasn't intentional, they were too young to sex when I got them. It's been well over a year since I got them, they all reached maturity a long time ago.)

I don't know why people call this a passive fish. These get pretty aggressive in my 55g. They're always trying to breed so they're chasing each other and sometimes my other fish get caught in the crossfire too, such as my ember tetras or smaller honey gouramis. They won't mess with my black neons or corys though. While they are cute and I like the fact that they will swim anywhere in the tank (and even peck for food at the bottom of the tank), I will be returning mine and get more black neons for a calmer vibe tank.
@PrimeTimeAquatics3 жыл бұрын
I really like black neons!
@CommanderWiggins3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I definitely think they do best in a tank with other robust fish. Things like Zebra Danios and Von Rio Tetras that are decently outgoing and hold their own.
@MatchuCT3 жыл бұрын
@@CommanderWiggins might do a tank of those in a 20g but way more females per males. One of my females passed so it's 2:3 males and they go nuts. It's unfortunate that they eat their own eggs though. Would Cherry barbs be good with cherry shrimps?
@CommanderWiggins3 жыл бұрын
@@MatchuCT I think that they'd be ok, but Cherry Barbs are also pretty much fish shaped garbage disposals that will eat or attempt to eat just about anything. So they'll very likely eat a good portion of the young shrimp. So if you want a slow growing colony of shrimp they'll be perfect!

Hey Jason and Joanna, I've recently come across your channel and I'm so thankful for the help! I'm new to fish keeping and am about to get my first tank-- a 10 gal. I did some research, and was thinking if it would be a good idea to keep a peppered cory, a panda cory, two ghost shrimp, 4 guppies, and 5 CPDs in the tank together? If not, what would be a good compromise? I love the bright purple and blue colours... Also, what kind of food should I get for them? I know CPDs are picky eaters and I want to get something they will all enjoy. Thanks a lot!
@PrimeTimeAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Congrats! I like your stocking. The only thing I might change is instead of the corys you mentioned take a look at 4-5 Pygmy Cory cats. You might enjoy them more in a 10 gallon. We feed all our fish Northfin foods and all the fish you mentioned eat it without any issues. Good luck!

You didn't explain anything about breeding them. I've had my male and two females with each other for about a year now and nothing. Definitely more then just putting males and females together. They do not need a large group of 8 or more at all. Reason why they don't school tightly is because they don't need a large group. Keeping just three with each other is just fine. I've had my three in a five gallon tank and they were doing great. Definitely don't need at least 20 gallons
@PrimeTimeAquatics Жыл бұрын
In the breeding section I did explain how to breed them and addressed your question directly. They are egg scatters and they will eat eggs and fry so they rarely survive unless you add a spawning mop and remove it after breeding. The last few minutes explain the process.
