Cherry Bomb® M-80 vs. Cherry Bomb® Vortex - Sound Comparison - 5.3L Chevy - Which is better?

This video compares the sound of the Cherry Bomb® M-80 and the Cherry Bomb® Vortex mufflers. These mufflers don't look alike, and the internals are different, but they sound similar. How will the sound compare? Will they sound the similar? Will one sound louder than the other? I do a series of accelerations and decelerations and one long uphill acceleration to record the "drone" sound inside of the cab of the truck and come to a conclusion.

M80 definitely sounds louder. I think the vortex would likely be more tolerable in a daily driver, unless you like loud all the time.

maybe add a resonator to remove the drone??? just asking. I'm leaning toward the Vortex \. Personally, I wouldn't use either one cause I wouldn't hear the radio. Like the videos, keep them coming.

Funny enough I put a cherry bomb vortex on my 05 subaru impreza wrx sti.... I went to a subi meet and pulling up eyes were turning but I couldn't figure out why. When I got out, a bunch of people walked up to me "hey man, what downpipe + exhaust combo are you running, we have NEVER heard a subaru sound like this, and it sounds amazing." sadly its a subaru crowd, more money than brains, so the moment I said "cherry bomb vortex, stock downpipe" they immediately went sour face and then said "you should buy a titanium exhaust, it flows better than your trash" and walked away from me and my car. in my experience, subaru kids have more money than brains, same goes for driving skill, all money no skill. lmao. One of the reasons I even went with the cherry bomb vortex was its quiet compared to other exhausts and YET flows extremely high. the OFFICIAL flow chart I saw from cherry bomb noted their glasspack flows about 510 (like most JDM exhausts) while their vortex flows 578. the note at the bottom says 3 inch inlet and "measured @ 20.3" of water on Super Flow SF-1200" which honestly, is a great way to check flow rates in my opinion. air flow is the same as water flow. if water has issues, so will air.... just to throw in the other mufflers, extreme cfm muffler was 500, pro series 470, and turbo series (their quietest and most stock like) only 290. sure enough, on my STI, the muffler performed extremely well. I had no drone that I could hear while highway driving, and it was quiet enough that even at full throttle it didn't really overpower my audio system. high flow and quiet? its like a double win. ive since then expanded my knowledge and now know you can make any high horsepower car quiet and yet retain power. its just a balance of pipe size and proper muffler and/or resonator. these people with straight pipes claiming "its for power" not its not, its to be annoying. because you can make the exact same power with a properly made exhaust. the reason RACE vehicles dont use them is because weight. they have strict guidelines they have to follow and by lessoning the weight from exhaust means they can recoup that weight in other area's.

I replaced the stock dual 3" in dual 3" out muffler (which Y pipes to a single tip) on my 04 silverado2500 6.0 with 2 of the 3" in 3" out vortex cherry bombs and I gotta say I love it! I wasn't looking for something to wake the neighbors and scare old ladies walking dogs. I just wanted something to let ya know there's a damn v8 under the hood! The vortex imo is nice and gentle at idle but if you get on that peddle it'll let you know it can growl, and if you hit full throttle and let off its still got some nice popping. All in all I think the vortex has the best of both worlds

I did true dual m80s with cats on my 01 Tahoe and it actually sounds really mean but not raspy at all. Definitely the way to go for a stock cam 5.3 when you want a muscular tone

Ik this is a late response but I have a vortex and I absolutely love it for daily driving I used to have a 40 series and the drone was just ungodly loud and I could barely hear the engine so I went with the vortex and it was night and day on the drone and I personally like at idle good deep sound cruising it’s fairly quiet and at wot it is loud and crisp

What would be cool, install an electric cutout on your exhaust head pipe & have the ability to to have 2 separate muffler systems with tailpipes. Few bucks, but you could have 1 as the I am just cruising mode & the other as I am moving out. Thought about doing that on my truck for years. M80 with gutted cats has that old school sound to it. That would be my choice. Use to run the old round steel case thrush mufflers back in the 60's...called them woody woodpecker mufflers. Now.....about your daughters science project...was that a 3 alarm or 4 alarm??

​@@TheDaninator Indeed there is.....FIVE ALARM FIRE It rarely happens that a five-alarm fire dispatch call is placed but if the situation demands it, the commanders on the scene will call a 5 alarm fire, which will typically summon a total of 20+ fire engine companies, 11 ladder companies, at least one squad company, and one rescue company, as well as multiple specialized units such as supply shops, air support, hazardous materials vehicles and snack trucks. This amount of response vehicles varies depending on the city and its fire departments. There should already be six battalion chiefs on-site, joined by at least one division chief, one deputy chief, and the chief of operations. Basically, a five-alarm fire means all hands on deck!

Ls engines sounds like poop I have the Vortex on my 1974 T/A with a 455 it has long tube headers with 2 1/2 inch pipe front to back and the Vortex mufflers sound good. they sound way different of the LS but the LS engines sound like crap compared to a small block chevy
