Here is what I saw on my June trip to Cherry Springs State Park, located in Potter County, PA. Due to its relatively high elevation (2,300 ft.) and isolated location, Cherry Springs is a fantastic place to see the shadow of our Milky Way galaxy, as well as other constellations and planets. Be sure to check the weather and stargazing forecasts before you visit though!

I went on July, It was a little cloudy, but it is worth it. I drove 13 hours from ATL. For me this was the only chance I had to visit, I don't know if in a near future I will have another chance to view this amazing place. Thanks.

The pure bright glitter of our milkyway was astounding there. I am an astrophotographer. Easily the brightest views I have ever seen....like one could reach up and touch the stars.... It is simply unforgettable.

Anyone who lives close to that park is very lucky. I wish the park was in my back yard. I would sure enjoy that.

I would hunt in that area. At night the sky was spectacular. It got to the point it was worth the trip from Pittsburgh just to sit on a mountain in the snow all nite and watch the magnificent sky, then head home in the morning catching a Mickey D’s big breakfast along the way. Life was good! The heck with the hunt. Loved those days!

I am somewhat of an amateur "expert" on Cherry Spring. :-) Brought my kids there in May 2010. Didn't see much of the Milky Way because it was May. Went back August 2015 with the family but this time there was a full moon. Again, didn't see much. My family didn't want to go back a third time so I went with my dog for the 5 hour drive from NJ in November 2022. Made sure it was a new moon and the weather was clear. It was beautiful. Never saw so many stars in the sky. You can see the haze of the Milky Way. It was a cold night in November but it was well worth it.

Hi, I appreciate the question! The pictures at the end of the video are a bit “dramatized” as they were taken using a method of photography called long exposure and were additionally edited using computer software, albeit lightly. With the naked eye, you can actually see the Milky Way quite clearly, but it is less bright and colorful than what is presented in the pictures. Imagine a vast, faintly glowing white cloud. With that said, if you want to see stars, especially for the first time in your life (I think that’s crazy!), I definitely recommend taking a trip to the park as you will be amazed by just how many stars and planets are actually visible with the naked eye. Plus it’s always fun camping! So download a good stargazing guide app, reference when the moon will be least impactful, and check the weather profusely before you go, and you will be have an awesome time!

Do you pay the 15 dollars for the overnight observation field when you get there or you have to do it online?
@jopejackworld
@jopejackworld 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, you pay when you get there. You just put the money into a provided envelope, fill out the requested info on the envelope (name and license plate number if I remember correctly) and drop it in a box.
