Yeah. I used to think that you just understand openings once and then that's it, but then I learned from watching Levy's GM preparation that they're literally preparing lines from their opponents games databases like 12-20 moves into the game and memorising that stuff. Which is kinda cool, but also sounds like a snooze fest. Because the thing that I love about chess is finding the tactics on your own and trying to win on your own after just a decent opening to get a good position.

Bishop : different color > 4×4 = 16 Rook king rook > 6C3 = 20 Queen > 3 16 × 20 × 3 = 960

This makes a lot of sense. I was wondering yesterday as to why it was 960. Makes sense. Out of 8 starting squares, white bishop can occupy any of the four white squares. And, so the case with the black bishop. Already 4*4= 16 possibilities. Now two bishops are sorted out. Six squares are remaining. 6C3 combinations and so on..

This is a really cool format. I would love to see how the meta of 960 Fischer Random evolves with Grandmasters playing it regularly. Granted, there may already be a meta, but I don't follow 960 at all, so this would at the least bring more attention to the variant, especially for me, raising the chances that something beautiful can arise. Not that I would do anything other than blunder.

The advantage gained from a high seed is that you play proportionally lower seeds first. In round 1 1st plays 8th, 2nd plays 7th etc. That way the projected finalists won't knock each other out early since they're situated on opposite sides of the bracket.

Magnus is so scared and don't want to play with Hikaru, Nepo, and So in this type of chess, out of theory. Chess 960 is all about creativity without prep and theory, and fuckin' computer. Hikaru is current world fischer random champion ( not here ) , Wesley So was a champion before him ( not here ) and Nepo beat Magnus in the semi-finals on the last world fischer random championship organised by Fide ( not here ) Hikaru said Magnus had a deal with the sponsors and he decided with whom he will play with and he skip NEPO, SO AND HIKARU CAUSE HE IS AFRAID OF THEM WHEN HE IS OUT OF THEORY cause he is the best in memorisazation, like computer, but the most creative players are Hikaru and Nepo for example , and Nepo beat Magnus under 8 World chess championship when they were kids cause Nepo is so creative , more creative than Magnus. Nepo was under 8 World champion and Magnus was second! Where is the clip about that Levy? Please explain that . Nepo had a greater potential , but the problem is memorization Magnus is better in that, not in chess. Fischer random type of chess is a proof for my words. The best chess player ever is definitely not Magnus, Tal and Fischer are far more better and so creative. Creativity is the greatest gift of God not memorization. Magnus is best in chess memorization. He can learn every pattern in chess and win a lot, but Fischer random you can't solve . This is the real creative chess. Fischer was right for the computers. They will destroy the game.

Quick question, do players know of the starting position before the game starts?

I don't know about this tournament but in the last fisher random tournament they give the starting position to the players 30 minute before each match and they allow them to study the position with another person but without engine

Entertaining video, would’ve liked more analysis of the position instead of blitzing through the moves.

Surprised Wesley so didn't get an invite. Rapid Fischer random is his favorite format.
