Did Leela choose the gambit line or were the moves preset up to 6.h4?

As usual, it's an amazing Leela game. Leela is the master of french defense. Thanks KC!

Leela makes it look easy. For Pete’s sake, this is Fritz we’re talking about! Black’s rooks were spectators for a long time. Another Masterclass session with Leela.

It's amazing because Lc0 is just getting started. What happens when Lc0 trains for 5 years? or 10 years for that matter!?

At move 4, Bg5 was a departure from the game between Alpha Zero and Stockfish when they played the French Defense. It will be interesting to see what future developments are in store for Leela. Imagine a game between Leela and Alpha Zero. *Wow*

Fantastic game by Leela, again. Somehow Leela manages to force its opponent's pieces to be utterly misplaced, the question is of course, how to prevent this. Like, does the French Defence suck, like the King's Gambit, but at a higher level? Or the Chatard Alekhine Attack from Black's perspective? Or a move later on? At which point from Black's side would Leela itself deviate? I would love to see this kind of post mortem: maybe some future level of Leela would have a teaching module to answer these kind of questions, or is it already available? Playing strongly an teaching well are two different subjects, though, I can imagine the Leela people stressing the former for the time being.

By the way: my 1965 Euwe opening book gives 6. ..., Bxg5 a question mark, it seems quite hopeless. I thought the non-Zero engines used an opening book, this 53 year old judgement should be in it.

The French Defense with an early Nf6 is bad, it gives white too much space and tempo allowing e5. But there are many other French openings that are ultra solid, Fort Knox variation is just one example.

Instead of Kf8 or g6, what if black goes f5, closing at least that lethal diagonal b1-h7?

Black lost with in 5 or less moves it's to late for the knight bird now and don't tell me these programs are over 3200 😊

She is going to be unstoppable. On the plus side, we are learning some incredible lines.

It is not just "this type of position", it is generally playing against the French. It's been a very long time since I have seen Leela lose one of these - and that was an early net on short TC, bamboozled by her opponent castling queenside. And it is not just Leela - playing French against the fish seems a thoroughly bad idea too these days. Could be the beginning of the end of the French defense at Super-GM level too, because they'll take note of these games.

Yes Leela excels more broadly in closed positions especially with more space - the French defence variation here has those features.

The Fritz programs, even the most recent one, Fritz 16, still seem to be materialistic enough that they underestimate attacking chances by their opponents.

Has anyone ever won with black using French defense? like in the history of Chess??
@franklippert42786 жыл бұрын
Yes, e.g. Uhlmann, Kortchnoi, Morozevich. In the French, the positional ideas are quite clear for both sides. Roughly speaking, black wants to undermine white's center, while white would like to use space advantage and cramping black's development (especially black's white-squared bishop). Often white can achieve a crushing positional advantage, if black isn't seeking active counterplay (often at the expense of positional weaknesses). Black has to be not just a positional player, but a good counter attacker, if he plans to prevail in the French. The above mentioned players are/were all terrific counter attackers.

FYI: I enjoy and study your videos but since I updated to iOS 12.0.1, I don't get notifications anymore from KZbin. Do you have any suggestions how to fix that?

Ok... Now I am beginning to understand the psyche of Artificial intelligence. .... There is a pattern emerging. .... In all the games almost. ... Black bishop and the black rook on the Queen side always remain undeveloped. ... So... to take on Leela ensure that your queen side pieces are mobile. .. maybe then Leela might get confused and overwhelmed. ...
