Great open conversation. Loving the content on your new channel. My main feelings about the TTT app is that its too Black & White - all the images of players are black & white. Id like the option to have a colour mode. Also, the "Games" schedule on your app is really unclear as to which games have been played and which have not. I have often found myself clicking through multiplle dates to find the most recent results. I'd much rather have the played dates be clearly marked as in the past on the "games" tab and also for there to be a date option so you can view schedule dates in DD/MM/YY or MM/DD/YY. Im in the UK so DD/MM/YY is way more easy for me to read. But I love what you are doing. I used to work in video game esports & I think you should team up with some esports commentators like Michal 'CARMAC' Blicharz who can help you make this game make sense to people who have no real interest in playing chess but enjoy the DRAMA! Like me! I cant play at all but love watching the on-going drama of Magnus, Hikaru, Ding and all... Best, simon bysshe

I feel like there's an interesting parallel with the argument that perhaps players who can find the better positions faster are the better players and the way engines provide their analysis. Perhaps the way to advance the human side of chess is to find the players that can faster sort out the lines to ignore, like engines.

Why doesn't opening prep matter as much in speed chess formats. Is it just because there are too many games to have enough opening prep for? It seems like rattling off 15+ moves in a speed format where you know the pitfalls of responses would be even more deadly than in a slower format.
@Coricot5 сағат бұрын
My guess would be that it’s not worth the time since there are too many games to prepare and not enough time to capitalize a small edge out of the opening.
@Julius-chess5 сағат бұрын
The reason is that in speed chess players can simply play relatively dubious openings if they dont feel comfortable in some main line. There is simply not enough time for your opponent to figure out why this is not a known opening and why it "doesn't work" so they wont be able to punish it. In classical between well prepped players if somebody plays a move in the opening that the other guy has never seen then its already clear that this move cant be good and you can simply stop and think for half an hour and figure out how to punish it. Whereas in speed chess you just gotta move.
@manojlds5 сағат бұрын
Yeah I would have thought opening prep is even more important in speed chess.
@joaoramos71604 сағат бұрын
@@Julius-chessYes, I believe this is the exact answer. Just watch Hikaru or Magnus play, they play every sort of opening and sometimes get slightly worse positions, but end up outplaying the opponents either way. Ofc if you go into a super theoretical line in the Petroff against Fabi in a blitz match he'll probably blow you out of the board with his prep alone. But if you play a more dubious line then it's a chess game.

If you see classical chess, especially preparation, it shows the new way chess can be played. "A new discovery, how chess can be played" Faster time control and freestyle is also good but demeaning the classical chess as monotonous is way off. My thought.

I think the best players of chess in the world regularly having this opinion means something. Especially in a time when the best chess players are computers, classical format isn't ever going to be groundbreaking in comparison.
