You spent a lot of time calculating an equal exchange with d4 just to be in an even endgame, maybe even worse if you ended up with an isolated pawn. Then you lost because of low time in the endgame you knew you would get from exchanging. You could spend more time making plans or improving your position than calculating non tactical sequences where you and the opponent can both count to five. Keep at it though, enjoying the videos.

@@Kiwi_Chess It is a bit of an awkward position but there were still other basic improving moves to play like bringing the other rook to the center or pushing one of the flank pawns. You don't have to force something if you don't have a plan, if your pieces are coordinated and your king is safe then you have time. You also gotta trust yourself more and calculate once maybe twice so you can look at more candidate moves rather than getting fixated. Once you calculated d4 that first time you could've said that's a big exchange and the endgame doesn't seem great so lets play something else. After calculating three times you probably felt committed to playing it with the sunk time.

I Think you overestimated your chances in the first game, the way he played you got winning chances, but you spoiled it with your less time. But that Queenendgame in general was pretty equal. The second game your opponent didnt know what to do on Sc3 and makes one blunder after the other. It was interesting that you looked for checks, but did not realize the knight mate. Good game from your side.
