In this chess opening theory video, we look at the Modern Defense! The Modern Defense is a good chess opening for black against e4, and a good chess opening for black against d4. However, it does not stop there. We specifically take a look at the Norwegian Rat Gambit / Norwegian Gambit! (Now yes, this starts with the Modern Defenes!) For inside of the Modern Defense includes many great openings including the (potential) Pirc Defense, Pterodactyl Defense, King's Indian Defense, Hippopotamus Defense, and... the Norwegian Defense/Norwegian Rat/Norwegian Rat Defense/North Sea Variation! The Norwegian Defense/Norwegian Rat/Norwegian Rat Defense is a very strong chess opening for black with good chess opening theory, chess opening strategy, chess opening moves, chess opening lines, chess opening tricks, chess opening variations, chess opening traps, chess opening principles, and chess opening tricks and traps to win games fast. Chess strategy, chess moves, chess ideas, chess theory, and chess tricks are all important. A chess opening can be good or bad based off of the things we mentioned. Despite the Norwegian Defense/Norwegian Rat/Norwegian Rat Defense/North Sea Variation being rare, it is very strong. In fact, this makes it one of the most underrated chess openings for black against e4 and most underrated chess openings for black against d4! One is not guaranteed the Norwegian Defense/Norwegian Rat/Norwegian Rat Defense/North Sea Variation, but if e4 OR d4 is played one can reach it.
In this video we look SPECIFICALLY at the Norwegian Gambit/Norwegian Rat Gambit/Norwegian Defense Gambit/North Sea Variation! This is a favorite of Magnus Carlsen, and he has used it to great success. The chess opening lines, chess opening theory, and chess opening theory of this chess opening are all very important. This is not an opening you can simply look at and have mastered in 10 minutes! The chess opening theory is dense, but also highly underrated, rare, and dangerous. Do you like underrated chess gambits that work against GMs? Do you like playing something rare, to surprise your opponent and have the advantage in preparation? Do you want a secret chess opening weapon that can work against e4 and d4 potentially? Let's just say that if you answered yes, you don't want to miss the Norwegian Gambit/Norwegian Rat Gambit/Norwegian Defense Gambit/North Sea Variation!

I have been playing chess for about a year and a half now, and as of right now my online rating is in the high 1900s, however despite this I couldn't really find an interesting opening as black besides the KID and 2 knights defense, I will definitely be adding this to my repertoire.
@TheChessGiant

Well first off congrats, that is a very high rating for only playing a year and a half! And ya I hope you have fun with this one. It is very rarely played but also strong so I think you'll be able to take many opponent's by surprise and get that advantage in prep.

Great video about such an underrated opening but still I insist what happens after 4. g4 instead of 4. Be2 because I think black is way less comfortable in this variation but still amazing video ❤
@TheChessGiant
@TheChessGiant 3 ай бұрын
Hey! Ya so later in the video I cover the move of g4 AFTER Be2 is played. If you go that portion you will see that black has a great game after Ng7 and h5 going after white's overextended pawns. Same ideas apply if white plays g4 immediately. Thanks for bringing this up, and hope this helps. Thanks, Solomon

Would you be interested in making a short video on the chigorin variation of the French defense. Super fun and strong imo
@TheChessGiant
@TheChessGiant 3 ай бұрын
I would! It looks cool! It seems as if black's d5 loses it's power once we play this! Of course they could take with the queen on d5, but then it almost feels like a Scandinavian Defense, which many French Defense (probably) don't want to see!

Also added that there are a few variations after 2 e5 from black either nf3 or f4 but I’ll let you pick what to go over. My personal favorite is f4 however.

Heya Solomon! Again with another banger vídeo today! Could you perhaps bring the Austrian Defense against 1.d4? Mamedyarov used to play it a lot, and win with it a lot. It is one of the quickest equalizers against 1.d4 and I believe it is one of the few positions which Black has a pawn on e5, Nf6, Bb4, resembling a good version of the Budapest. Cheers! Ps: also with the Gusev Countergambit: Haberditz Variation?

I really like that gambit version, but nearly nobody will play it on my level (cca 1800) and I have trouble with what to do with my opponent kind of ignoring me, so that is something I am missing in this video, like general idea how to develop or what to do if none of these moves happen. Otherwise great video, thanks :)
