Wow this is sick, idk if you do a lot of offbeat, but I’d like to see a French chigorin variation vid 😮

I just looked this up and it looks interesting! I will have to take a closer look into this... is this what you play?

I got you! The Norwegian Rat is great!

I might add this to my gambits repertoire! It's pretty neat. Awesome job as always, Solomon!

Nice!! Ya it's fun. I think us Hippo players often like hyperdynamic stuff where we give the center but then go after it, we also enjoy the advantage in preparation. This is one of those chess opening options for black that accomplishes both!

Excellent material and instruction. Subbed. What would you say is the main difference between the North Sea Defense and Norwegian Rat, and do you prefer one over the other in terms of soundness. Thanks!

0:00 i love it, tried it in a blitz game and won in 15 moves!

I have tried to get it for about 10-15 games but all of my opponents (Ranging from simple 1200s to 2400s, I've been playing in an arena) have manged to avoid it in some way or another. One actually played into some of the lines in one of your videos, but did not accept the gambit, making me frustrated

Ah. Ya I could see many players not going for it. What is their usual response? Do they play e5 to kick the knight or do they play Nc3?

could you make a video on the french benoni? I like my benoni/benko against d4 (although most just play the london at my level) but i havent been able to find an opening that i like against e4. Both e5 and c5 are way too tactical and i dislike the modern/pirc (might try the norwegian here).

I am assuming you want this covered from the white perspective?

very sophisticated one

I second that! Very dynamic game by two high level palyers.

Magnus Carlsen plays absolutely anything in blitz against GMs, even the most stupid openings. There are plenty of videos where he uses 6 tempi just to swap the location of the king and queen.😅 For me, this is definitely not a good opening. Why on earth would White play 4.Be2? Why would White play such a passive move? Why would White move the same bishop twice, and then give the Bishops pair (especially the strong light-squared bishop), taking out the queen in the very first phase of play? To take a knight who has already moved twice, stuck at the edges of the board? Come on. White can just play 4.f4 and have a completely dominant position.

Point of Be2 obviously is to take the knight, damage the structure and win a pawn

The point of Be2 is to take the knight on h5 and damage black's pawn structure.
