In the Old Benoni, white has to be careful not to try too hard to hold on to the extra material given up by black or he might just fall for the Old Benoni Trap.

I fell for it when I was 8 years old . Dad set the trap and demolished me . I remember I was crying and dad was laughing so hard , he actually cried :D Mom came in to my room , and if looks could kill , my dad would be six feet under . Dad told me it is old Benoni trap , and I mistakenly told my friends it is old banana trap ! Thanks for the vid , it brought back old memories :D

Recently started getting into chess with hardly anytime to actually play. These videos get me familiar and speed up my learning of the game without the necessity of actually playing. They grant me familiarity of board states, openings, tricks to NOT fall into and tricks to set up. Thanks for taking the time making these.

It's clear from your narration that you are bothered by people complaining about traps being based on amateurish mistakes. Ignore them. Any truly expert player should realize that you are _teaching_ chess to people at lower levels of ability and experience,... people like me. I've seen two of your trap videos, and in both of them you have noted the better moves that an opponent should have played. So keep up the good work and don't be bothered by people who are trying to show off how smart they are. That's like someone who knows high school algebra complaining to a math professor about his videos which are intended to show "tricks" or "short cuts" to middle school math students. They'll learn the principles later. I'm remembering when I was a freshman in college and played against an advanced player. Early in the game he played ...Bb4. I kicked him to A5 with c3. Then I played b4, pushing his bishop to b6. Shortly after, he played ...Qh4. I pushed him back with my g and h pawns, foolishly believing I was kicking his ass. He sighed and shook his head. It didn't take him very long to clobber me after that. At the end of the game he was kind enough to explain to me why my second pawn moves were so bad. Now that I am older and know a _little_ bit more about chess, I can tell you that your lessons are very good and entertaining for beginning players.

@OnlineChessLessons ok so if white leaves the pawn there and plays c3 instead, would u trade off pieces or what would u do instead. and if white plays d5 pushing the middle pawn up instead of taking in beginning what would be the best way to play it out.

The value of pieces shifts constantly depending on the position. I saw a game where a knight won by having more power than the queen. It was something to see. As far as intrinsic value goes, I have seen bishops rated at 3.25 but I agree with you-3 for sure.

At 5:13 if black queen takes white rook on a1, white bishop can move to c3, forcing black queen to take peon a2 (white bishop is protected by knight on b1, and knight is protected by queen). Then white bishop takes black peon on g7, and on the next move, takes black rook on h8, equalizing the lost of material. Or am I not seeing something?
@deadagain33
@deadagain33 9 жыл бұрын
Even if that happened you would get the A file pawn. However, there is a way out of your worthy contention that means your sequence does not have to happen. You have gained a rook, worth five. If bishop c3, you are NOT forced to play Qxa2. You can play bishop b4 (which pins the bishop to the king, saving your queen and your pawn and rook). Sure, it gives away your bishop but you are still material up and can even consider Qxg7 anyway and will have time to block a renewed threat bishop c3 threat with the simple f6. So even in after bishop c3, in my scenario you the end result is a rook and a pawn for a bishop, a worthy trade that should result in black victory given equal subsequent play - but of course not as good a trade as the videos supposed "free rook" as you need to give away a bishop to prevent tragedy. .
@edwardmurdoch5070
@edwardmurdoch5070 9 жыл бұрын
deadagain33 Yes, if that happens, blacks would get an extra pawn on A file. And you are absolutely right. Black bishop on b4 pins white bishop to the king. At the end of that exchange blacks would definitely be with the advantage only losing a bishop but conquering a rook and a pawn. However, when in the following move blacks protects the rook with queen g7, whites can move the bishop back to c3, making blacks relinquish the attaching sequence. And since in this imaginary scenario whites is Mikhail Tal with an open board at his disposal, blacks is doom! hi hi hi :) Just kidding! Thanks for your eloquent response.
