@@ngc-fo5te Yep, it's blitz chess and Hikaru chose to underestimate him, resulting in multiple oversights. It's difficult to catch everything with that little time, even for the greats. If they played 10 games, I'd take Hikaru winning the other 9, but that's just my opinion. After that first loss he would have figured him out and probably wouldn't let it happen again. Maybe the youngster would get 2/10. I'm interested in seeing how this kid develops in the future.

Why? magnus started at 5. He quickly spend many hours on the board and he said when not on the board he was thinking about chess a lot. That is easy 10k h invested in 5 years. 10k hours is of course just a random numbers, that you need to put in enough hours.

@@Utoko hi! The 10k hours is actually not random, according to Ericsson, the researcher that came up with the concept and studied it for a long time. I'm with the opposing camp that doesn't believe in deliberate practice as the sole or even main contributer to success, but rather genetics etc. these cases where a kid reaches expert level at such a young age is an anecdotal evidence for that. As for what you say about carlsen, thinking about chess is not deliberate practice according to the scientific definition of it. It's an optimistic notion that we can all be great if we just put in the work, but I think reality shows otherwise.

Well the truth is in the middle. Not even this kid tried chess for a week and was a master. He got better ever week. You need to put in the hours to reach close to your peak. I certainly agree that genetics always play a role where the peak is. Not everyone can be world class. In case of magnus when you can play blind against 8 opponents.. Magnus says himself that most of his training is mental visualisation playing positions in his head. It just depends on what you working on.

So I apologize for jumping the gun so to speak, HOWEVER, there is still an issue 1) in terms of titled tuesday results, hikaru has the most wins with 59 (double tournament era), but that doesn't mean hes the best player, quantity doesn't always mean quality. the reason he has the most wins (drum roll) is because hes played in the most tournaments 2) in the double tournament era, hikaru has 59 wins and the next closest is Andreikin with 17, followed by magnus at 15. Why do you think that is? how is that gap so big? is hikaru that much better than every other superGM in the world? Could it be he is just farming a bunch of regular GMs/IMs/FMs etc every tuesday and padding his record because other superGMs dont care as much about Titled Tuesday? 3) if you think point 2) is misguided and hikaru is facing world class talent every Titled Tuesday then why has hikaru never won a fide world blitz championship but magnus has 7. Isn't it strange that when hikaru is actually put in a field with a cohort of world class talent, a field of his peers if you will, he has never won. Why is that? Is it just coincidence? Why don't all his Titled Tuesday results transfer to a FIDE blitz (or rapid for that matter) tournament win with world class players?? 4) if you look at the aggregate of their blitz games against each other over their careers, magnus has almost double hikarus wins, according to the website "chessgames", although they do add the caveat "*The figures above are based only on games present in our database which may be incomplete." however something tells me the 50+ games that hikaru would have needed to win to actually be neck and neck with magnus just happen to not be in the database and one can assume they are all hiding alongside the 12,000 votes needed for trump to win georgia. 5) When Ali was stripped of his title in 1967 for refusing to participate in the Vietnam war, an interviewer asked him whats it like not being the world champ, Ali said something to the effect "im still the best in the world" and he was right, when Michael Jefferey Jordan retired from the NBA in 1993, if someone was to ask who is the best player in the world, the only correct answer was Jordan, it doesn't matter if he was in the league or not. Even now in the chess world, does anyone who isn't in a mental hospital seriously think Ding is actually the world chess champion? Everyone knows the best classical player in the world is magnus (as of this date at least). 6) returning back to your original point regarding both blitz and chesscom, the only thing we must ask ourselves is (with point 5) in mind), does magnus have an account on chesscom?? As long as his account exists, on that site, hikaru, by definition, isnt the best blitz, rapid, classical or anything, player. The fact remains that that magnus has consistently spanked hikaru in every time format for their career, so the implication that, if and only if, they meet on chesscom suddenly they get transferred through a wormhole into another dimension where in bizarro world hikaru is suddenly on the same level of magnus is the type of unbridled optimism that a man like me can only dream of. I really like your videos and channel, and i watch your content relatively often, so my criticism isnt meant to be offensive to you cause i think you do GREAT work, but imo, no one is beyond scrutiny and a spade must be called a spade. Hopefully I wasn't rude, I never claimed to be a diplomat, I am simply (among other things,) a bad chess player lol :P cheers
