When Vishy Anand played the Caro Kann against Nepo | Global Chess League

Ian Nepomniachtchi opened the game with 1.e4 and generally Vishy responds back with 1...e5. However, on this occasion, he went for the Caro Kann. The Caro Kann is a sharp opening and even though everything seemed around equal, things started to get very exciting in the endgame. Check out the game along with the commentary by IM Sagar Shah.

Anyhow to me longevity is a hugely relevant metric in any goat discussions (though incompatible with with the current pro model). If you re beating up on every generation that dares to pop up while you re still breathing, that's gotta count big. The likes of Lasker capa Karpov and anand will forever be most impressive to my eyes.

no he can't. no stamina to pull of 5-6 hours long games against the young guys. thats how he lost it years ago - magnus would grind out ''drawn'' positions waiting for a mistake which would inevitably come after hours and hours of focus. he's too old for the top games in classical. he may have a great game here and there, but i doubt he could bring the consistency one needs at WCC in classical. rapids - sure, anyone's game

Bcoz none of them will let the other win from that point. On their level they know when a position is not in favour of anyone. Also in this specific game, there was one good move for both of them and it will go back and forth and none of them will move any other piece or pawn, so it will end in draw because of repetition. Hence they accepted the draw

The matches played in fide tournaments are 2hr long matches and if the players draw those matches then they go to an Armageddon and rapid matches , but in this league all the matches played are rapid that's why
