The clock is wired to bombs strapped to each player, and if a players timer runs out, that player explodes. Just in case anyone was wondering.

People who don't know the rules, the capture Magnus did at @5:33 is called 'En Passant' . This is when you capture your opponent's pawn as if it had moved just 1 square. Remember it's only applicable when a player plays a pawn move 2 squares beside the pawn of the opponent.

Looks like the Queen's Gambit has brought in so many new players that aren't aware that the pawn capture at 5:33 is called 'en passant'. Half the new comments are about this. Please like so people are aware it's a perfectly legal move. Look it up.

This should clear up the questions. The man on the left is Magnus Carlsen, the current world champion. The man on the right is Alexander Morozevich, *the winner of this game.* The reason Alexander won is because Magnus resigned the game -due to an inevitable checkmate.- About the move that *Magnus* does at 5:32/5:34, there is chess rule called "en passant" which makes that move completely legal and nobody cheated. Edit: turns out I wrong about the inevitable checkmate, *Magnus actually resigned due to having a losing position.* Also, please ignore the replies/other comments that say Magnus resigned due to time, and the ones that say it was draw agreement. When you pay attention to the clock, you'll notice that the players get 2 seconds back after each move, which gives time for players to make moves in the final seconds. Hope this helps

Sarah Gilles that shows Alexander taking the a pawn back, not the en passant move. And even if you meant a time just showing the move right away, (5:34) you're still not correcting me. I just chose a time that didn't immediately show the move

Dolan Duk but think about it. If you learned chess you'd be able to work out both mind and body. And the mind is perhaps the most important part of the body in maintaining long term health. People who don't exercise their mind tend to age faster and are more susceptible to dementia. Not to get all preachy, just food for thought.

Morozevich pretty much retired from (competitive at least) chess later on, but he went on to become a decent Go player. go figure (no pun intended). I always find it interesting when elite chess players take up another board game. Ivanchuk started playing checkers and got pretty good too - nowhere near the world elite level, but he attained expert strength, I believe (putting himself in the top 1% probably, as far as casual players are considered).

Excelente partida.

5:33 1. Black pawn hasn't moved yet, so it goes *two* squares forward. 2. Black pawn lands next to a white pawn, either to the left or right. 3. White pawn can capture the black pawn, *but* still moves diagonally one square forward and left/right. As if the black pawn had moved one square instead of two 4. White pawn can only do this immediately after the double-square black pawn move, otherwise, it can't be done. *The En Passant* *Also* The Russian won. Why? Carlsen had 2 seconds left and he was barely surviving the clock the last 10 moves more or less. He was at a disadvantage as his king was in a dangerous and threatening position. The logical move was to resign. How about liking so we can avoid further confusion and ignorance in the comments...

is a move in chess. It is a special pawn capture that can only occur immediately after a pawn makes a double-step move from its starting square, and it could have been captured by an enemy pawn had it advanced only one square. The opponent captures the just-moved pawn "as it passes" through the first square. The result is the same as if the pawn had advanced only one square and the enemy pawn had captured it normally.

@alexmyrtou4483
@alexmyrtou4483 3 жыл бұрын
@@twblopez OK, first of all it's capture or take.. :) So, en passant: You know how you usually capture with a pawn, and you know that a pawn on its first move can move two squares instead of one.. The point is you cannot escape getting captured by using the two square move.. So, if your pawn is located two squares in front and on the side of an enemy pawn that's still in it's starting position, it cannot avoid capture by moving two steps and coming right next to yours.. You can take it as it if it have moved just one step.. This move is to prevent someone to run by you and create a passed pawn, hence the term en passant (passing, on the move).. I hope my explanation makes enough sense to help, I believe by seeing how the pawns are set in the video and reading this you can have your question answered..
