7:01 I like to think about sacrificing mathematically. Here, in exchange for a healthy rook (5.1 energy), I get: - two healthy pawns, one of which looks as a potentially dangerous passer / piece discombobulater / the other defends my king and can become an outside passer in an endgame 2.5 energy? 3? The e pawn looks like a good asset to me. - severe enemy king weakness. This is the hardest one to put a concrete number on - enemy piece discombobulation. We get energy in the form of time as our opponent unwinds. Here it will take … how many moves?… with many moves to work with and a weak enemy king, we can sense these advantages should combine well. Time advantage tend to increase exponentially, ie two moves is worth more than 2x one move - Bertha gains +2 energy and is surely worth at least a rook now So should I trade 5.1 for 4.5 + king weakness / enemy piece energy sadness? Clearly yes Gogogogogogogo I predict engine will say winning for black after a deep think. In game you’d have to focus on whether white has a simple plan to kill the counterplay,, and if you struggle to find one good chance it’s on.
