I would pay extra for a Dojo version that says stuff like "that's not it boss" when the opponent blunders.

That would be when you run a game through the Dojo engine. Engine is trained solely on Jesse's graduation shows and starts by looking at your time graph: "Uh oh, I'm gonna scream at you!" If playing a3: "Loss of time" If making an empty threat: "You're being a cheapo merchant!" If starting to move developed piece twice: "What do I want you to do? Castle!" If you win: "Welcome to the Dojo!"

If I recall, you can order the sensors and then install them into whatever pieces you want
@tychay22 күн бұрын
i've done this. It's a lot of work unless the pieces have the weights already removed, you should also spend some money/time on tungsten putty so you can weight the pieces down, and (only for Chessnut Air plus like me), there may be an issue with the bishops on the a4 and a5 squares (near the electronics) so you many need to iterate with Chessnut until you have a working set. Looks great though and feels great. Still looses a chunk of weight vs. lead weighted pieces.

thank you for the seemingly honest review kostya. i’m new to chess, a dojo fan & a well-wisher for for drive for gm norms. could you please provide a few comments on the visual aesthetics of the chess pieces. your references to house of staunton along with a lifetime in chess suggest you have a more refined appreciation of the design and execution of the pieces that goes well beyond their weight and the tactile feel you mentioned. also, if interested do you have favorite sets, designers or manufacturers, whether contemporary or historic. i hope to have one real nice board and pieces (unlikely digital). i have yet to hear any fm, im, or gm discuss the releative beauty of chess sets. i think i saw hikaru doing a quick rundown of expensive sets that focused on the absurd and not a true evaluation of chess set design. thank you.

I purchased a wooden DGT Eboard and separately purchased the cheaper DGT plastic pieces (pieces are not included). I found the over all weight of the large plastic pieces, comparable to the heaviest wooden DGT set and being plastic, a whole lot more durable.

I have the Chessup board and I use it daily. I'd definitely recommend the experience. If I were to purchase again I'd probably buy this Chessnut Pro board, but the Chessup board works well too, and my 7 year old daughter really likes using it which is a nice bonus.

What I really want is just to have all the moves from the coffee house Monday nights. Not classical games but would be great for reviewing my understanding of the transition from opening to middle game. Did I understand the ideas correctly? Sometimes the night goes too late for me to really remember the next day.

Would only be interested - very interested - in an E-board IF it was able to at least record the moves of blitz game because then I could review otb blitz games at my leisure. Unfortunately, none of the available e-boards are able to record moves made rapidly in a blitz game, let alone the occasional bullet-speed finishes. Fix that problem & literally millions of these will sell.
@mark100net122 күн бұрын
These are not for playing blitz. 15+10 is generally the slowest time control where they are practical IMO.
@antaniserse22 күн бұрын
In terms of *recording* the game, these boards have absolutely no problems... even the cheaper versions of Chessnut, which use the same sensors as the big wooden one featured in the video, can store the moves as fast as you can make them, with the caveat, of course, that if pieces starts to fly around in time scramble, they can get confused. If you play an online game, then clearly the overhead of doing your opponent's move can have an effect on your clock in fast time controls, but then again that is not a move recording issue... if you play against another real person, on the other hand, they go in "recording mode", and every single change in the position gets stored immediatelly
@Ebobster22 күн бұрын
@ That’s precisely my point. The inability of these e-boards to handle blitz games severely limit their appeal & market because for fun blitz or blitz with increment by a huge margin is the preferred time format.
@mark100net122 күн бұрын
@@Ebobster Your point is that these boards are not for you because you can't use them for blitz but no one is saying they are good for blitz (which should be obvious). You might as well be saying I don't like this board because I like to play checkers and I can't play checkers on it.
@Ebobster22 күн бұрын
@ In every e-board out there the manufacturer says they cannot be used for blitz games, as the board’s mechanism at fast speed will not be able to capture the moves. Seems the mechanism for move capture should be improved perhaps by a camera attachment that records the game & AI software that can decode the moves captured by the camera. Product’s biggest chance of success is improving to accurately capture blitz games.

Hi Kostya, I'm wondering about the clock size playing online with a chessnut board (the chessnut GO would be affordable for me) and mobile app. I think if the transmission is reliable, I don't want to look at the position displayed on my mobile phone at all. But of course you need to see the clock times at a glance. Is there something like a only-big-clocks-mode available in the chessnut app when playing online? I would hate to search for those tiny clock-times next to a tiny board on my phone. Think this would ruin the OTB-experience with an eboard for me, much more so than having to move the opponents pieces as well.

@Sitbear22 күн бұрын
Doesn’t it seem weird that these “smart boards” only save you half the effort? Yeah, it relays your move to the computer, but you still have to manually move the piece when your opponent moves. So it’s not really like playing OTB, even after spending hundreds of dollars. If the opponent’s pieces would magnetically move across the table, then I might think it’s worth it.

there was a computer set that did that like 30 years ago. Really unreliable. It actually was a terrible experience. I seem to have a vague memory that Chessnut and at least one other company (not the KS fraud one)was working on this so you never know.
@mark100net122 күн бұрын
The fact that you have to move opponents' pieces doesn't come close to offsetting the other benefits to using a real board to play the game. Certainly if you haven't at least tried it you shouldn't be asserting otherwise.
