In this video, IM Alex Astaneh is bringing to you the Chigorin's Trap that can arise out of the Giuoco Pianissimo of the Italian Game. If white is moving the bishop to the g5-square before black castled, black can set a very creative trap involving a queen sacrifice. Make sure to watch the video to the end so that you're prepared for that trap when it arises on the board.

I was very surprised to see the terms "trap" and "Gioco Pianissimo" put together. Incredibly beautiful line that, as an 1.e4 e5 player, I will definitely use if given the opportunity!

Thank you Alex for this miniature. I remember this game. It should be Victor Knorre vs Mikhail Chigorin, St Petersburg (1874). Instead of Nc3, the move h3 giving back the queen on e2 and continuing with Ne6 would give to white more chances to survive.

First video I've seen on your channel and I love it! Your explanations are so clear, and I feel like I'm sitting at a table with you. And you carefully explain different moves and their consequences rather than just the best move. Breath of fresh air compared to most chess content, and I'll definitely enjoy watching the rest of your videos.

What if white takes rook instead of queen.😂

It would still be a checkmate, although less spectacular. After NxRh8, gxh2+ Kxh2 Ng4+. And after the next move by White, the black queen will occupy h4 and surround the white king in a mating net from which it is impossible to escape.

Thank you Alex for this nice lesson. Well, it looks amazing. But there is one move, you don't discuss. But this move seems to spoil the whole plan. If White plays in the 12. move instead of Qd2 Qe1, the Knight could cover the spot f3 with Nd2. Perhaps I am still to bad a player to see, why Qd2 could lead to a disaster for White then. If the whole trap depends in the end of Qd2 this trap is way to dangerous to play, isn't it?

Ne2+ leads to white having to sacrifice the queen back to avoid being checkmated. Therefore the position becomes very equal, and even slightly better for black

I know i am late sir, but it wouldnt matter where he goes with the queen among the two blocks, the knight would still perform the same job.
