No joke, after watching this, I have never lost a game where I used Caro-Kann: Tartakower Variation. I'm ~1200 elo so that won't work forever, but wow what a great intro.

I don't usually comment but man I had to appreciate you and your work here! I am currently preping for a tournament and wanted a Karo Cann masterclass. I first got to Gotham chess course's free sample but then they were too expensive according to my country's currency and that is where you came in! Amazing explanations with such details in minimal time is absoulutely banger. Keep it up bro.

Really nice video! I have recently switched to the Tartakower Variation for faster time controls rather than using the Classical Variation and have, in the last few days, won both of my first two games with the variation: 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Nf6 5. Nxf6+ exf6 6. Nf3 Bd6 7. Bc4 O-O 8. O-O Bg4 9. h3 Be6 10. Bb3 Re8 11. Be3 Nd7 12. Re1 Nf8 13. Qd2 Ng6 14. c3 Qd7 15. Rad1?? Bxh3 16. d5 Qg4 17. Kf1 Bxg2+ 18. Ke2 Bxf3+ 19. Kd3 Qe4# (Not best play on either side, but entertaining) 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Nf6 5. Nxf6+ exf6 6. Bc4 (Forgacs Variation) Qe7+ 7. Be3 Qb4+ 8. Resigns (Forgacs Forked Bishop Trap)

on the slide at 00:10 of the video - it's the "Advance" (not "Advanced") Variation. This due to the planned advance (e2-24-e5) of White's e-pawn in that variation

Hey man. I just wanted to tell you: I always disliked playing this variation and only have a 40% win rate with it. I watched your video the other day and today I had this variation again for the first time. I got EXACTLY the kind of kingside attack you showed with sacking on h3 and then nh4 to seal the game. Checkmating in 20 moves. It was the most fun BY FAR I ever had playing this variation. Thank you so much for the lesson!

Going to binge all of your Caro-Kann videos before my first tournament ever on the 20th! Also hoping you have some king's indian stuff for queen pawn opening. Your videos are so informational and well explained. Any tips for first time tournament preperation? Trying to focus on solidifying my white openings with counters to sicilian, french, pirc, caro, philidor, and petrov and work on my caro and kings indian theory. Thanks 👊

I do indeed have a KID masterclass! For prep in your first tourney, I would of course do some opening work (which it seems like you are doing!), but I would also not forget the very important practical side of a first tourney. Specifically: Take your time. It will be very tempting to rush, and play quick, but in classical time format you need to double and triple check everything, especially since it will be harder to see/calculate with a 3d board if your coming from online 2d world. Good luck! And have fun, it is genuinely so much more rewarding to play a good game over the board, compared to online!

@@ChessGeek1 Thanks for the response! The time control is 90+30 and it's a swiss style with no under groups. There is 2 titled players playing and 5 players above 1900 with a few mid range and about 6 players rated below 1000. I'm a little nervous as i've only been playing since beginning of August but i've reached 950 chesscom elo and have been studying every day so hoping to have a good time and learn a lot! It's called the 2024 Southern Nevada Championship. I'll come back with results once it's concluded and again, appreciate the help!

Nice video! However I checked this line with the online database and it seems like it is not so easy to get our main setup when White goes for Nf3 combined with an early c4 cause Nd7 oftens runs into d5 issues.
